The new Warner Bros. bolstered DC Comics film Suicide Squad has garnered a lot of attention over the past few months. Some good. Some bad. Personally, I am excited for this adaptation of this storyline. It’s awesome source material and, for the most part, the film is pretty well cast and has unloaded some pretty awesome, candy-colored trailers.
But one huge marketing strategy that’s been played over and over leading up to this film’s release is how ‘method’ some of the actors have gotten for their roles. Everything from Jared Leto sending rats to fellow cast members to Margot Robbie really buckling down and embodying the role of Harley Quinn through her love of tattooing.
We have not heard much about Cara Delevingne though, until now. Delevingne, who will be playing Enchantress, has apparently taken her methods not only seriously, but into the moonlit woods…
There still wasn’t a script, but David asked me to go and try and find a forest and, if it was a full moon, get naked and walk through the woods with my feet in the mud, which I did. There wasn’t a full moon, but I howled like a wolf. It would have been really funny if someone had seen me. –Cara Delevingne
On top of this, writer/director David Ayer asked her to read Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and they also met one night to talk specifically about mental illness and addiction.
That’s a lot of method, people.
Yes, this movie has had some extreme marketing, to say the least. Some of it has hit and some of it hasn’t. But it is nice to see a film be very distinct while seeming to tell a very unique story. I’m in. Bring on the method.
