Town Offering A ‘Craigslist Zone’ For Safe Transactions, You Know, So No Murders Happen

Buying and selling to complete strangers from Craigslist is a risky proposition. One New Jersey town is making it easier for residents to coordinate transactions by designating a certain area of town a Craigslist safe zone.

The designated area is the hallway of the local police station.

The Bordentown Township police are now offering people a “safe zone” to complete transactions they arranged online.

Individuals making purchases from other people through Craigslist and other online sites are free to complete the deals in the municipal building’s well-lit lobby, which is open 24 hours a day and is monitored by surveillance cameras.

Bright yellow signs denoting the safe zone have been hung in the lobby and outside the building.

This is a great idea except for two issues — the first is furniture and appliances. Are people going to drag their dishwasher into the municipal building? The second is “yeah but what about selling drugs??”

Officers will not participate or act as witnesses in the sales and any transactions involving weapons, drugs or drug paraphernalia are banned.

Oh screw it, go back to meeting people at the Dunkin Donuts at the corner. They’re totally cool with selling guns.
