Trail Blazers’ Mo Harkless Earned An Extra $500,000 By Not Shooting A Three Pointer In The Final Three Games

Imagine if your boss approached you and said he’d give you a $500,000 bonus if you did absolutely nothing for the rest of the week. But, if for some reason your kiss ass decided to finish up those TPS reports, you would get absolutely nothing if there was an error within them. May be the easiest decision of all time, no?

Well that is the decision the Trail Blazers’ Maurice Harkless was faced with as the season winded down. Mo’s contract was structured in a way that said that if he shot at least 35 percent from three, he’d get an extra $500,000. He had only shot above 35 percent from deep once in four seasons.

In the final three games, Mo’s shooting percentage from long-range was 35.1 percent. So he did what any rational human being would do–not shoot a three for the last three games of the season.

The dude ain’t no dummy. Before Portland’s last game of the season on Wednesday, CSN Northwest asked Mo about the incentive bonus.  The dude ain’t no dummy.

Before Wednesday’s game, Harkless was asked if he would even attempt a three-pointer?

“Would you?’’ he said with a smile.

But what if the game was on the line, and the Blazers needed a three?

“Then I would pump fake and try to get fouled,’’ Harkless said, chuckling.

Wise man.

Harkless generously used his $500,000 cash infusion on a $82 dinner bill with his loved ones. What a guy.

The anti-drug people gave him a $50 savings bond for his brave contribution to crime-fighting, and upon the bond’s maturity 10 years later, he used it to buy his very first bag of marijuana.
