The 66 most overrated women of 2013

Woman in sunglasses image by Shutterstock

Just like last year, this fourth annual ranking of the most overrated celebrity women isn’t a “hot list” (see the Guyism 100 for that). These are women who we feel are overrated in the eyes of fans and media. Yes, it’s possible to be famous and beautiful and still be overrated. This also doesn’t mean we don’t like all of these women. In fact, we are big fans of several. This is about hype. Using our super scientific formulas, equations, graphs and flowcharts we compared the ACTUAL HYPE that each celebrity receives versus the DESERVED HYPE we feel they should be receiving. The bigger the difference between the two scores, the higher they are on this list. Got it? Okay, let’s go.

66 Gina Carano

Gina Carano image by Featureflash/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: Unranked

We know this will be blasphemy to some, but Gina Carano’s last fight was in 2009 and she’s been in just two movies in the almost four years since. These days she’s just another actress. (Can we please just have our Rousey vs. Carano match? Please? Acting can wait.)

65 Emma Watson

Emma Watson image by s_bukley/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: Unranked

Finally the Harry Potter series is over, so we have gotten to see a little of what Emma Watson can do without a guaranteed movie audience. Thus far she gets a solid “Meh” both for performance as well as box office appeal.

64 Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj image by Helga Esteb/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 65

One of the main reasons Nicki Minaj got the gig on American Idol is because she is a loose cannon, which is also one of the reasons why she’s so famous. So is she successful because of her talent or because of her outlandishness? It’s hard to tell.

63 Zooey Deschanel

Zooey Deschanel image by Featureflash/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 51

Last year we mentioned that Zooey Deschanel had been in 34 films and TV shows since 1998 and we asked you to name five. It’s been a year and answering that question hasn’t gotten any easier.

62 Demi Moore

Demi Moore image by s_bukley/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 21

Demi Moore is now more well-known for her weird marriage and equally strange divorce with Ashton Kutcher. But at least she still has her movie career which includes these gems since 2003: LOL, Another Happy Day, Margin Call, Bunraku, The Joneses, Happy Tears, Flawless, Mr. Brooks, Bobby, and Half Light.

61 Lea Michele

Lea Michele image by Joe Seer/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 64

Let’s see… since appearing on last year’s list Lea Michele has been on Glee, and, well, that’s it. Still no new additions to the resume for an actress hyped to the moon.

60 Karlie Kloss

Karlie Kloss image by Featureflash/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: Unranked

Karlie Kloss has essentially replaced Miranda Kerr in the Victoria’s Secret Angels lineup. We may never forgive her for that. Or understand it.

59 Jordana Brewster

Jordana Brewster image by Featureflash/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: Unranked

Let’s face it, Jordana Brewster has been living off her appearances in the Fast and Furious movies and her role as a teen in the 1990s on As the World Turns for years now, but once you are ensconced in the right Hollywood circles you still get work like Jordana does appearing on the TNT show Dallas.

58 Shakira

Shakira image by Avis De Miranda/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: Unranked

Do you know why Shakira is now on The Voice? The same reason Christina Aguilera is: they were available. She may be an international superstar, but in America she’s just that singer who has some amazing hips with about 10 million copies sold here for her nine albums total.

Photo credit: Shakira image by Avis De Miranda/Shutterstock

57 Katie Holmes

Katie Holmes image by s_bukley/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 63

Katie Holmes is still a tabloid darling, and still getting fashion magazine photo shoots, because, well, we have no idea. She hasn’t been in a film since 2011 and has been in one film that made over $25 million since 2005. Actually, now that we think about it, we do know why she still garners attention, and it rhymes with Bomb Booze.

56 Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton image by Featureflash/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 28

Paris Hilton is still famous. As long as that continues to happen she shall remain on this list somewhere.

55 Eva Longoria

Eva Longoria image by s_bukley/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: Unranked

Eva Longoria is known for two things (well, three): playing Gabrielle Solis on Desperate Housewives and for being married to Spurs guard Tony Parker. Neither of those things is true anymore, so now what?

Photo credit: Eva Longoria image by s_bukley/Shutterstock

54 January Jones

January Jones image by Featureflash/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 59

January Jones still thinks that she is God’s gift to acting despite the fact that until Mad Men came along her biggest acting credit was Cadence Flaherty in American Wedding. But hey, she’s a big star now as evidenced by the $411,746 box office gross her last film Seeking Justice did.

53 Christina Milian

Christina Milian image by s_bukley/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: Unranked

Christina Milian is the Social Media Correspondent for The Voice, which makes sense since she hasn’t released an album since 2006.

52 Ashley Tisdale

Ashley Tisdale image by DFree/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 53

Ashley Tisdale is a product of the Disney machine, appearing on their kids shows and in the High School Musical series of films. That all pretty much ended in 2008. Now she’s best known (if you can call it that) as the voice of Candace Flynn on the cartoon Phineas and Ferb.

51 Tori Spelling

Tori Spelling image by Brad Camembert/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 45

Tori Spelling hasn’t acted regularly since Beverly Hills, 90210 ended in the year 2000 (13 GD years ago), so why does anyone care that she just turned 40 or what kind of bikini body she has or what pet she shares her bedroom with? Seriously, why? We must know!

Photo credit: Tori Spelling image by Brad Camembert/Shutterstock

50 Sarah Silverman

Sarah Silverman image by Featureflash/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 36

Sarah Silverman moves down this list mostly just because we haven’t had to hear as much about her in the last year other than voicing a character in Wreck-It Ralph, in which she actually did very well. Perhaps she has found her true calling.

Photo credit: Sarah Silverman image by Featureflash/Shutterstock

49 Danielle Fishel

Danielle Fishel image by s_bukley/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: Unranked

Danielle Fishel made a bit of a comeback this year by posing for Maxim magazine. And that was nice, but until her new show Girl Meets World actually hits the airwaves she still hasn’t acted in anything meaningful since the year 2000 and should still be considered irrelevant.

Photo credit: Danielle Fishel image by s_bukley/Shutterstock

48 Jennifer Love Hewitt

Jennifer Love Hewitt image by Helga Esteb/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 4

Jennifer Love Hewitt is now 34 years-old and still hasn’t starred in a movie since 2002, but at least she’s back on TV with The Client List where she’s putting her biggest assets to good use.

Photo credit: Jennifer Love Hewitt image by Helga Esteb/Shutterstock

47 Maria Menounos

Maria Menounos image by Helga Esteb/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 41

Maria Menounos hosts a celebrity gossip show. You’d think she had a more important job considering the amount of press she receives. At least we didn’t have to see her pretend to wrestle this year at Wrestlemania.

Photo credit: Maria Menounos image by Helga Esteb/Shutterstock

46 Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston image by Featureflash/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: Unranked

Jennifer Aniston has been a super popular actress for many years now, but since 2008 she has had just two films, in which she was one of the main characters, break $70 million in box office earnings. Plus her last movie, Wanderlust, tanked making just over $17 million. Perhaps her time is done?

Photo credit: Jennifer Aniston image by Featureflash/Shutterstock

45 Blake Lively

Blake Lively image by Featureflash/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: Unranked

Blake Lively was on The CW soap Gossip Girl for six years, which made her famous, but didn’t lead to many roles on the big screen (five films in six years). Which is too bad, because now that her show has ended she is mostly just famous for being married to Ryan Reynolds.

Photo credit: Blake Lively image by Featureflash/Shutterstock

44 Rosario Dawson

Rosario Dawson image by Joe Seer/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: Unranked

The average gross of the 28 movies involving Rosario Dawson as an actress is just under $31 million (that’s not good) and that includes the $190 million showing for Men in Black II.

Photo credit: Rosario Dawson image by Joe Seer/Shutterstock

43 Victoria Beckham

Victoria Beckham image by Featureflash/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 19

Why is Victoria Beckham still famous and still getting so many opportunities? The Spice Girls pretty much hung it up in 2000. If she wasn’t married to David Beckham this whole time would we still be talking about her in 2013? Seriously.

Photo credit: Victoria Beckham image by Featureflash/Shutterstock

42 Amber Heard

Amber Heard image by s_bukley/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: Unranked

Amber Heard is a pretty good actress, no real major blockbusters to her credit, but she sure makes a lot of headlines. First for coming out as a lesbian, and now for doing the exact opposite by dating Johnny Depp.

41 Avril Lavigne

Avril Lavigne image by Helga Esteb/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 57

Avril Lavigne is 28 years-old yet and latest song is “Here’s to Never Growing Up.” Her album sales have gone from over 6 million to just over 3 million to around 1.6 million. Maybe it is time to grow up?

Photo credit: Avril Lavigne image by Helga Esteb/Shutterstock

40 Madonna

Madonna image by Helga Esteb/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 9

Last year we mentioned that Madonna’s latest album MDNA set a record for the largest sales drop by a #1 album in week two (almost 87%). Since then she’s done nothing to improve her ranking here other than not being in the public eye quite as much. Let’s keep the trend going.

39 Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez image by Helga Esteb/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 17

A year ago Jennifer Lopez was named the world’s most powerful celebrity by Forbes and the most beautiful person by People. Since then she’s used this power to quit American Idol and make one movie, Parker.

38 Kristen Stewart

Kristen Stewart image by Featureflash/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: Unranked

Now that the Twilight series is over and her built-in audience has gone away Kristen Stewart has managed to redirect all of her fame from being in blockbuster films to being known for sleeping with the married director of her film Snow White & The Huntsman. (Her first film to be released post-Twilight, On The Road, made a whopping $720,000 at the box office).

37 Malin Akerman

Malin Akerman image by Featureflash/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 35

Last year we asked you to name three films starring Malin Akerman. Have you come up with them yet?

Photo credit: Malin Akerman image by Featureflash/Shutterstock

36 Emma Roberts

Emma Roberts image by Ovidiu Hrubaru/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 24

Emma Roberts is the daughter of actor Eric Roberts and the niece of Julia Roberts. That must be the reason she’s still famous and getting jobs, because it certainly isn’t her box office appeal.

35 Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin image by Jennifer A. Walz/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 29

Sarah Palin, for some reason, is still out there and still soaking up the limelight. It’s now been five years since she and her side LOST the election. Heck, we’ve even had another election since then. She’s living proof that once you’re famous, all you have to do to stay famous is be famous for being famous.

Photo credit: Sarah Palin image by Jennifer A. Walz/Shutterstock

34 Britney Spears

Britney Spears image by s_bukley/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 55

Britney Spears’ album sales in chronological order: 10 million in 1999 to 9 million to 4 million to 3 million to 1.4 million, to 1 million in 2011, and yet she set a record by earning a reported salary of $15 million to be a judge on The X Factor. Apparently she wasn’t worth the money since she won’t be returning. However, if she truly can figure out what the hell is going on with Amanda Bynes we promise to remove her from this list in 2014.

33 JWoww

32 Bristol Palin

2012 Rank: Unranked

You know what’s worse than the fact that Sarah Palin is still famous? That her daughter Bristol Palin was ever famous in the first place. Go away, Palins.

31 Octomom

Nadya Suleman image by s_bukley/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 2

The best thing about Nadya Suleman, AKA Octomom, in the past year? No more porn videos. Let’s keep it that way.

30 Whitney Cummings

Whitney Cummings image by Jaguar PS/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 16

Whitney Cummings made this list last year after using her appearances on the E! show Chelsea Lately to land a sitcom on NBC and a talk show on E!. They’ve both since been canceled. Perhaps NBC and E! overrated her talents.

Photo credit: Whitney Cummings image by Jaguar PS/Shutterstock

29 Erin Andrews

Erin Andrews image by Helga Esteb/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 14

Erin Andrews left ESPN last year to go work for FOX Sports and despite her appearing on red carpets, for some reason, and her desire to move into other areas of television (her Good Morning America correspondent gig on ABC was very short-lived), she is still nothing more than a talking head, covering mostly college football.

Photo credit: Erin Andrews image by Helga Esteb/Shutterstock

28 Olivia Munn

Olivia Munn image by Helga Esteb/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 6

Olivia Munn’s popularity is still a bit of a mystery to us. Granted, she is an attractive woman, but there are literally thousands of attractive women out there trying to make good in Hollywood. Is it still the “geek factor” that she played like a violin from her days on G4TV? At least now she’s actually earning some of her acclaim with her work on The Newsroom. If she keeps that kind of thing up she might even find herself not on this list in 2014. But no guarantees.

Photo credit: Olivia Munn image by Helga Esteb/Shutterstock

27 Chelsea Handler

Chelsea Handler image by Jaguar PS/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 22

Chelsea Handler was listed as one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine last year. No, really. Since then she’s done, uh, well, her show on E! and will be in a Lifetime original movie called Call Me Crazy, which according to Lifetime’s Web site is “not currently scheduled.”

Photo credit: Chelsea Handler image by Jaguar PS/Shutterstock

26 Keira Knightley

Keira Knightley image by Helga Esteb/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 60

Keira Knightley got married this year. We mention this because it was arguably the most notable thing she’s done since leaving the Pirates of the Caribbean movie series back in 2007. Since that day she’s made nine movies with just one taking home more than $13 million at the box office.

Photo credit: Keira Knightley image by Helga Esteb/Shutterstock

25 Kate Middleton

Kate Middleton image by Featureflash/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 40

Kate Middleton is pregnant. Why anyone outside of England (or even in England for that matter) cares is a mystery to us, but we sure do get to hear a lot about it.

Photo credit: Kate Middleton image by Featureflash/Shutterstock

24 Christina Aguilera

Christina Aguilera image by Jaguar PS/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 58

Christina Aguilera made this list last year based on the fact that she was getting all that attention for being on The Voice and not for actually, you know, singing. But late last year she actually did put out an album – which tanked. It sold under 73,000 copies the first week, her lowest first-week sales ever in the US, and overall it ended up being the lowest selling album of her career.

Photo credit: Christina Aguilera image by Jaguar PS/Shutterstock

23 Julianne Hough

Julianne Hough image by carrie-nelson/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 60

Julianne Hough used to be on Dancing With The Stars, which made her relevant until 2009. Since then she’s starred in three films: Footloose, Rock of Ages, and Safe Haven. She also dated Ryan Seacrest during most of that time, which to date has by far been her most successful role as an actress.

Photo credit: Julianne Hough image by carrie-nelson/Shutterstock

22 Stacy Keibler

Stacy Keibler image by Featureflash/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 3

Stacy Keibler is still in the news despite the fact that she hasn’t been a WWE Diva since 2006. Our question is, what is she going to do when George Clooney inevitably breaks up with her to keep her name out there? And what exactly does she do for a living now anyway?

Photo credit: Stacy Keibler image by Featureflash/Shutterstock

21 Vanessa Hudgens

Vanessa Hudgens image by Helga Esteb/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: Unranked

Vanessa Hudgens made her fame, much like Ashley Tisdale, in the High School Musical series of films. Oh, and for naked pictures of her that were “leaked” on to the Internet. Since then her only box office success, sort of, has been the film Journey 2: The Mysterious Island which made over $100 million in which she got fourth billing. The rest of her films have an average box office take of just under $17 million each. Not exactly superstar numbers.

Photo credit: Vanessa Hudgens image by Helga Esteb/Shutterstock

20 Meghan McCain

Meghan McCain image by Rena Schild/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: Unranked

At least Sarah Palin actually did something back in 2008. All Meghan McCain did was be lucky enough to be the attractive daughter of the losing candidate, which she parlayed into writing gigs an analyst job on MSNBC (after which Gawker referred to her as “noted idiot Meghan McCain”). Now she’s going to be host of a talk show called Raising McCain on Pivot, a new cable channel launching in August. Why?

Photo credit: Meghan McCain image by Rena Schild/Shutterstock

19 Eva Mendes

Eva Mendes image by Helga Esteb/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 50

Last year we shared with you the last 10 movies Eva Mendes had a starring role in (Last Night, Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, The Women, The Spirit, Live!, Ghost Rider, Cleaner, We Own the Night, The Wendell Baker Story, and Hitch). Since then she made Girl in Progress ($2.6 million at the box office) and The Place Beyond the Pines (just under $21 million at the box office). Well, at least she’s moving up the rankings here!

Photo credit: Eva Mendes image by Helga Esteb/Shutterstock

18 Jessica Biel

Jessica Biel image by vipflash/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 32

Jessica Biel made last year’s list based on her paltry body of work since 7th Heaven went off the air in 2006. Since then she’s been in the films Total Recall, The Tall Man, Hitchcock, and Playing For Keeps. How many of those did you go to the theater to see? Not many based on the box office numbers. But hey, she got married to Justin Timberlake, so that’s worth…something.

Photo credit: Jessica Biel image by vipflash/Shutterstock

17 Kate Hudson

Kate Hudson image by CarlaVanWagoner/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 39

Since winning a Golden Globe award for the film Almost Famous in 2001 Kate Hudson has made 17 films with zero Golden Globe or Oscar nominations with the average box office gross of her 21 films in total at just over $27 million each. Wow.

Photo credit: Kate Hudson image by CarlaVanWagoner/Shutterstock

16 Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus image by s_bukley/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 47

Miley Cyrus, thanks to her Hannah Montana days, is still dominating celebrity news despite the fact that her last movie that actually made it to theaters, LOL (So Undercover went straight to DVD), grossed approximately $10 million worldwide on a budget of $11 million. As for her musical career, her last album, Can’t Be Tamed, sold only around 345,000 copies in the U.S, quite a bit less than her previous album Breakout, which sold 1.5 million copies in the States. Trending…down.

15 Courtney Stodden

Courtney Stodden image by s_bukley/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 12

The fact that Courtney Stodden is still making stupid videos (that people watch) and still posing for salacious photo shoots (the people look at) and still in the news has us greatly disappointed in society.

Photo credit: Courtney Stodden image by s_bukley/Shutterstock

14 Ke$ha

Ke$ha image by Featureflash/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 38

Ke$ha released her second album on November 30, 2012. It sold less than half the number of copies during its first week as a month-old Taylor Swift album did. Has her 15 minutes finally run out? Please?

13 Jenny McCarthy

Jenny McCarthy image by s_bukley/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: Unranked

Jenny McCarthy was huge in the 1990s, appearing in Playboy and hosting a show on MTV. But why is she still famous, hosting a talk show on VH1, 15 years later despite having done absolutely nothing of note?

12 Manti Te’o’s Fake Girlfriend

Bikini girl image by Shutterstock

2012 Rank: Unranked

Sure, this is dying down a bit now, but at it’s height it was simply ridiculous (even being ranked on Maxim’s Hot 100). And just wait until football season begins in the fall.

11 Khloe Kardashian

Khloe Kardashian image by DFree/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: Unranked

The Kardashian Klan has been a thorn in our sides for years now, but most of the time it was just KimKSuperstar doing the annoying. In the past year though Khloe Kardashian has stepped up her game, becoming more vocal thanks to the fact that Khloe & Lamar made her even more famous.

10 Snooki

Snooki image by DFree/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 18

Snooki had a baby. How do we know this? How could we not know this? And now we have to endure yet another year of hearing about it thanks to the renewal of Snooki & JWoww. So disappointing, ‘Murica.

9 LeAnn Rimes

LeAnn Rimes image by Helga Esteb/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 33

LeAnn Rimes has put out two albums since 2007, so it makes perfect sense that we constantly have to hear about her and her husband Eddie Cibrian’s ex-wife Brandi Glanville fighting on Twitter, right? If her new album Spitfire actually does well, and we get to stop hearing about her self-created dramas then maybe next year she won’t be on this list.

Photo credit: LeAnn Rimes image by Helga Esteb/Shutterstock

8 Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan image by s_bukley/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 6

As we pointed out last year on this list, the last movie LiLo starred in that made over $30 million was Herbie: Fully Loaded…in 2005! And yet we’ve had to endure another 12 months of hearing about her legal troubles. Maybe being in rehab will finally allow her to do something productive and move her off this list in 2014. Probably not.

7 Minka Kelly

Minka Kelly image by Jaguar PS/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 20

Minka Kelly’s last acting role was in 2011 on the Charlie’s Angels reboot, which lasted four whole episodes, meaning she has appeared in nothing since making this list in 2012.

Photo credit: Minka Kelly image by Jaguar PS/Shutterstock

6 Megan Fox

Megan Fox image by Jaguar PS/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 1

Since appearing at #1 on this list in 2012, Megan Fox had a baby, joined Twitter, quit Twitter five days later, and had a bit part in This Is 40, where she was in a bra being fondled by Leslie Mann. So we dropped her to #6. Seems about right.

5 Amanda Bynes

Amanda Bynes image by s_bukley/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 49

Where do we start? In 2006 Teen People named Amanda Bynes one of “25 Hottest Stars Under 25.” Since then she’s been in three films and two TV movies, the last taking place in 2010. The only thing keeping her relevant is the crazy stuff she’s been doing for the last few months. What a pitiful waste.

Photo credit: Amanda Bynes image by s_bukley/Shutterstock

4 Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow image by Featureflash/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 15

Gwyneth Paltrow was born to actress Blythe Danner and film producer/director Bruce Paltrow, with Steven Spielberg as her godfather, which explains why she has starred in 31 films despite an average box office take of just over $28 million each when you remove her role in the three Iron Man films, a role that any of 100 actresses could have played and not affected the films’ sales whatsoever.

Photo credit: Gwyneth Paltrow image by Featureflash/Shutterstock

3 Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba image by DFree/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 5

Jessica Alba still hasn’t starred in a film since 2011 when she was in Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World. Which is notable because since 2007 she has appeared in nine films total. Name three other than that one.

Photo credit: Jessica Alba image by DFree/Shutterstock

2 Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian image by Featureflash/Shutterstock

2012 Rank: 8

Kim Kardashian finally got divorced from Kris Humphries and is pregnant with Kanye West’s baby. If you think the media coverage of all of this has been nauseating, just wait until she actually has the kid. Maybe next year she’ll be #1 on this list. Who wants to bet against it?

Photo credit: Kim Kardashian image by Featureflash/Shutterstock

1 Farrah Abraham

2012 Rank: Unranked

Farrah Abraham is famous for having a child as a teenager, getting paid to be on a reality show about teen mothers, and then made a sex tape. She got paid $1.5 million for doing the latter. She was famous for something coming out her vagina and now she is famous for something going into it. Enough is enough.
