These Are The 25 Most Dangerous College Campuses In The US

Every college student thinks they’re completely safe on campus. Sadly, this isn’t the case. Every day, a crime happens on a college campus. Some crimes even go unreported.

But just which colleges are the most dangerous college campuses in America. These are the top 25.

Although schools like the University of Virginia, Duke, and Florida State have gotten a lot of press for a handful of high-profile and serious sexual assault cases, they’re not the schools where overall crime is the highest. So to find the most dangerous colleges–those where the most crimes are committed relative to the size of their student body–FindTheBest analyzed Office of Postsecondary Education Campus Safety and Security statistics.

The resulting 25 schools are the four-year universities with the highest rate of alleged criminal offenses (per 1,000 students) reported to campus security authorities and local law enforcement agencies in the 2012 to 2013 school year. The data represents 95 incident types including violent and non-violent crime.

If you don’t want to know if you’re a student living on one of the most dangerous college campuses in America, you should probably stop reading. Actually, no, read the list of dangerous college campuses just so you know the kind of people you’re going to class with. It’s better to know.

UPDATE: This afternoon, we received and “our bad” from the people behind this list. We’ve written a follow-up story that can be found here
