There are a million reasons to want to visit Thailand on vacation.

Thailand is home to some of the most iconic cuisine on earth, something that many Americans are familiar with thanks to culinary diplomacy. Many people don’t know this but the government of Thailand established the Global Thai Restaurant Company, Ltd in 2001 to create 3,000 Thai restaurants worldwide in an effort to boost domestic tourism.

Other popular reasons to visit Thailand are the numerous temples, markets, snorkeling, stunning flora and fauna, and affordability. A luxury resort in Thailand might cost a fraction of the price of a similar resort in Europe or the United States.

But then there’s the snakes

This TikTok video of a 12-foot snake swimming inside a luxury resort’s pool in Thailand has unsettled a lot of people. The video was posted to TikTok 4 days ago and has already picked up nearly a million views.

Many people are aghast seeing a snake so large swimming in a hotel pool. It is unclear what species of snake that is but there are many species of snake in Thailand that deserve healthy respect.

Thailand is home to the King Cobra, Monocled Cobra, Reticulated Python, and many other world-famous species. In total, there are over 200 species of snake in the country, most of which are non-venomous. However, the King Cobra can reach up to 18 feet in length and possesses neurotoxic venom that can cause death within 30 minutes.

I don’t want to speculate on what species of snake that is. But if I was random person commenting on Tiktok I’d probably be saying something that rhymes with ‘my thong’.

The comments illustrate a general discomfort toward snakes. One person wrote ‘my list of countries to visit keeps getting shorter.’ Another person joked that it was a ‘special show from the hotel’.

Another commenter said ‘unless there is a sign that says ‘no snakes allowed” they don’t see a problem with this at all.

Luckily for everyone, that pool is very well-illuminated. It would be virtually impossible to jump in that pool before seeing a snake that size in there and thinking twice.
