Beef prices in the U.S. have been climbing. According to recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, ground beef is up more than 11% compared to last year, while beef steak has jumped 12%. The USDA reports that in June, beef hit a record $9.26 per pound. So when a Florida woman came across a truck offering ribeyes for dirt cheap, she didn’t think twice.
TikTok creator Kendall Smith (@kendallsmith.904) shares her haul in a video that’s been watched over 85,000 times.
“I was leaving the gym, and there was like this truck. And it said 20 ribeyes for $30,” she begins. However, the ribeyes being offered seemed small to her. So she was more interested in a box deal the worker informed her of.
The box, she says, was first quoted at $578. Smith started walking away until the price suddenly dropped. “He’s like, ‘I’ll give it to you for $140,’” she recalls.
That sealed the deal.
Breaking Down The Haul
Once home, Smith shows viewers exactly what she received.
“OK, so this is a box full of stuff,” she says. Inside are multiple cuts: two T-bone steaks, four ribeyes, several New York strips, and even “seven filet mignons.”
There are also 13 beef patties and three filet strips. “I’ve already definitely got my money’s worth. I can promise you that,” Smith tells viewers before admitting, “Did I get jipped? I don’t know. We don’t have to see how the quality of the steak is.”
Was It Really A Good Deal?
On paper, the math might work out. A pack of two ribeyes can easily go for $20, a single filet mignon for $15, and two New York strips for around $25. Add burgers and T-bones, and the value surpasses the $140 she paid.
The bigger question is quality. As Smith herself admits, “This is why I’m impulsive. I just saw a truck. And I was like, ‘s— OK.’”
Commenters Warn Her
Not everyone was convinced this was a win.
“I did that once and ended up with some BAD meat. Be careful!!” one person said.
Another flagged the shifting prices, saying, “The fact that it went from $570 something? To $140? Not sure if I heard that right but NOPE RED FLAG right there!”
Someone else chimed in with their own bad experience, writing, “I did this and spent 500 and it was for meat and fish, it was the absolute worst tasting meat and seafood ever.”
@kendallsmith.904 Idek what the name of the truck was 😂 I just saw “30 ribeyes for 20 dollars” 🥴 oh well, I think I definitely got my moneys worth here 😂
