Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has concerns about the "looksmaxxxing" trend
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s previous comments about Gen Z influencer Clavicular and his “looksmaxxing” trend have resurfaced after the controversial streamer tweeted that he could “fix” AOC. Clavicular’s tweet about the New York City Congressman came in response to a report that she’d split from her fiancé Riley Roberts.
Clavicular, the divisive influencer and streamer best known for advocating fringe self-improvement techniques — such as hitting your jawline with a hammer to strengthen it — known as “looksmaxxxing,” replied to TMZ’s article about Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s breakup with her longtime partner Riley Roberts.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s previous comments about “looksmaxxing” resurface after its most viral proponent, Clavicular, said he could “fix her”
While the pair’s split was only just reported on this week — they were last spotted in public together at the 2021 Met Gala — sources say they actually called off their wedding and split in 2024.
The day after Clavicular’s, real name Braden Eric Peters, tweet about AOC went viral, her comments about the “looksmaxxing” trend resurfaced on social media. While the viral tweet framed AOC’s comments as a “response,” the video is from mid-July, before Clavicular’s tweet about her earlier this week, in the wake of her split from her fiancé becoming public.
“I think to me it’s less about him himself as a person; I think it’s about what leads young men to go down these kinds of rabbit holes,” the popular Congresswoman told TMZ DC last month.
“I think as a woman, when we’ve been teenagers, we’re constantly being told that our bodies are not good enough and that you’re either ‘too big,’ or ‘too small,’ or ‘too tall.’ Everyone’s trying to nip this and tuck that, and it’s all because of the messages that we’re told about our worth,” she continued.
“I think that it’s bad enough that women get that, and I don’t want to see that extended to young men either because at the end of the day … there’s always going to be something. We really need role models of people who love themselves.”

The 21-year-old replied to AOC’s comments on social media, saying that personality remains important even when “looksmaxxing” (having to write this word so many times is making me feel insane).
“Why do people act like you automatically reject the importance of charisma/personality when becoming a looksmaxer. Its always been about being as well rounded as possible and maxing every stat.”
