Amanda Bynes Files To End Conservatorship After Nearly 9 Years

Amanda Bynes has asked to end her conservatorship after nearly nine years. Que the Obi-Wan Kenobi “Now that’s a name I’ve not heard in a long time” GIF.

The lawyers for the 35-year-old Bynes filed court documents in California on Wednesday to terminate her conservatorship that has been in place since 2013.

“Amanda wishes to terminate her conservatorship. She believes her condition is improved and protection of the court is no longer necessary,” Bynes’ lawyer David A. Esquibias told People magazine.

Lawyers for the former Nickelodeon actress requested to cease the conservatorship of her person and estate in a petition submitted at the Ventura County Superior Court.

“Bynes also filed a capacity declaration Tuesday, as California requires all conservatorship cases to have updated records about a conservatee’s mental state from their physician, psychologist or religious healing practitioner,” Page Six reported.

How Amanda Bynes Was Placed Under Conservatorship

Bynes’ mother Lynn was granted temporary conservatorship over her daughter in August 2013. Lynn Bynes was given legal control her personal, medical, and financial affairs. Bynes was placed under conservatorship after she allegedly started a fire in a stranger’s driveway. Amanda Bynes – then-27-years-old – was then hospitalized on an involuntary psychiatric hold.

In November 2014, Bynes wrote on Twitter that she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

Bynes has been battling substance abuse issues over the years.

A hearing is scheduled for March 22.

The former actress hasn’t posted anything on Twitter since September 10, 2019.

Britney Spears Recently Ended Her Conservatorship

Three months ago, fellow celebrity Britney Spears was able to finally end her 13-year conservatorship. The singer announced this week that she plans to purchase a new home with her newfound freedom.

Spears wrote on Instagram, “I’ve lived in this house for 7 years and I’m in the process of buying a new home … it’s time for change !!!!”
