When their plane ran out of fuel, one American Airlines customer knew that they were in for an experience. Then, things kept going from bad to worse.
Content creator Tyler Jackowski (@fishin4clout) is used to sharing anecdotes on TikTok. And in one of his latest clips, he admitted that he had a “bone to pick” with American Airlines. Speaking to the camera in what appeared to be the departure lounge, he began by explaining that he was on a flight from Dallas to New York. Things went smoothly at first. However, things took a turn when, 30 minutes from landing, it was announced that the plane was running out of fuel and was landing in Philadelphia.
What came next was a lot of waiting. It took 45 minutes for fuel to get started. As the plane finally started pushing back, it was announced that the pilots and crew might time out. Initially, the flight attendant said they were confident that they’d take off in the next hour. They suggested that a time out wouldn’t happen. But after 30 minutes on the tarmac, it was announced that the crew and pilot had indeed timed out. This meant they’d need a replacement crew and pilot.
Things Get Confusing
At this point, the TikToker was looking at trains. However, he was told that a new pilot was coming in 45 minutes. He and the other passengers started getting “restless,” but were told they couldn’t leave the plane. Then, the agent changed tactics, saying they could deboard, but their bags would fly with the plane. This led to a lot of passengers with carry-on bags preparing to leave. Then, on the intercom, the agent said they were going to have to write the name of everyone who wanted to leave, then let the captain on, and then push back. For 30-40 minutes, the airplane staff wrote down the names of those who wanted to leave one by one. Because he had checked baggage, Jackowski decided to stay.
His storytime was then interrupted by a staff member telling people not to leave the boarding area. She said that new flight attendants were assigned; she just didn’t know where they were.
Returning to the storytime, the creator shared how, after writing many names, staff was back on the intercom saying everyone was getting deboarded. They were told if they wanted their bags, they had to wait at the gate for a new pilot and crew. The video ended with another announcement, with the woman telling people to get their boarding pass ready ahead of flight attendants’ arrival.
“I’m gonna lose my mind,” Jackowski said.
The video amassed 15.8 million views. BroBible reached out to Jackowski and American Airlines via email.
Viewers Call Out American Airlines
Commenters were shocked.
“Why would they take off without enough fuel?” one asked.
“I’m so sick of Airlines pulling this c—,” a second said. “I’ve heard you can legally request up to 4x your ticket price for delays like this. Check into that and let us know.”
“They owe every passenger $400 cash. Not a voucher. But cash,” a third claimed. “It’s an FAA rule.”
And a fourth commented, “The way airlines hold you hostage in these situations makes me a crazy person.”
Does American Airlines Reach Out?
In a follow-up video, Jackowski shared a video clip of himself on the phone with an American Airlines employee. In the video, she appeared to offer him a trip credit. Replying to this, the creator said everyone on the plane should get trip credits and check-ins on when their bags will arrive too. In the beginning, the agent seems to say that while they don’t “proactively” reach out to every passenger, they do “100%” respond.
Jacowski responded that everyone deserves the same level of “coverage.” He added that she seems to have the ability to “right the wrongs of everyone else that was on the plane.” He encouraged her to make that next step and offer travel credits to passengers. The TikToker also said she must surely have the numbers or emails of those who flew. In response, the agent said she’d look into it.
As users debated in the comments, Jackowski added: “DISCLAIMER: the woman on the phone did a genuinely great job. She handled a very difficult position very well. She seems incredibly open to helping all of the passengers get what they deserve, and that makes me very happy.”
Based on his experience, Jackowski, who is far from the first person to experience American Airlines delays, probably would’ve been able to get an American Airlines delayed baggage reimbursement. But this wasn’t mentioned in the video.

What Does It Mean If Flight Crews ‘Time Out?’
When a pilot or flight crew says they have “timed out,” this means that they can’t work anymore that day.
As reported by USA Today, the Federal Aviation Administration sets general rules around the maximum hours worked and the minimum hours of rest needed between shifts. However, different airline companies and their unions are free to negotiate stricter ones.
Sara Nelson, president of the Association of Flight Attendants, told the outlet, “If you hear that a flight crew is timing out, it may be frustrating, but it means they really should not be working that flight.”
