  • Amy Schumer has receded from the spotlight in recent years after giving birth to her first child in 2019.
  • The stand-up comedian is set to be one of the hosts of the 2022 Academy Awards.
  • Schumer recently claimed that she wanted to get Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy appear during the ceremony

Stand-up comedian Amy Schumer, apparently unaware that he has far more important things to do than address the increasingly diminishing Oscars audience, said during a recent interview that she pitched having Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy appear during the broadcast, whether it be in a pre-taped message or live via satellite.

Schumer will be hosting the 2022 Academy Awards alongside Wanda Sykes and Regina Hall on Sunday, March 27.

“I think there is definitely pressure in one way to be like, ‘This is a vacation, let people forget we just want to have this night,’ but it is like, ‘Well we have so many eyes and ears on this show,’” Schumer told Drew Barrymore on her daytime talk show. “I think it’s a great opportunity to at least comment on a couple of things. I have some jokes that kind of highlight the sort of current condition. I mean, there are so many awful things happening that it seems hard to focus on which one.”

“I actually pitched, I wanted to find a way to have Zelenskyy satellite in or make a tape or something just because there are so many eyes on the Oscars,” Schumer added. “I am not afraid to go there, but it’s not me producing the Oscars.”

Credit to the shining beacon for bravery that is Amy Schumer for not being “afraid to go there,” as if having one of the most popular and well-liked people *in the world* right participate would be such a bold swing.

Schumer’s comments about Zelenskyy comes as the Ukrainian president — in the throes of leading his nation through an unprovoked invasion of Russia — appeared in front of Congress last week. Perhaps Schumer foolishly thought that addressing Congress and the viewers of the Oscars were the same thing.

This isn’t the first time that Schumer has made eye-rolling comments about her upcoming Oscars hosting gig, as she recently teased one of the “jokes” she was considering telling before instead deciding to take “more risks”:

“My husband is going down on me, or as he calls it, Squid Game. So, he’s in my Nightmare Alley…” Schumer told The Hollywood Reporter earlier this month.

With the viewership of the Academy Awards precipitously dropping with each passing year, it wouldn’t be shocking if the broadcast bottomed out even further this weekend.
