It seemed like Johnny Knoxville and Co. had decided to enter a well-earned retirement after the fourth Jackass movie dropped a few years ago. Bam Margera was noticeably absent from that film over a messy situation that unfolded behind the scenes, but it sounds like he’ll be making his grand return in the next chapter that was unexpectedly announced this week.
It’s hard to believe it’s been more than 25 years since Jackass was unleashed upon an unsuspecting world, and it’s almost as hard to believe the crew of amateur stuntmen were still willingly subjecting themselves to the wide array of abuse that helped Jackass gross over $80 million when it came out in 2022.
Most fans are likely aware there’s a dark side to the franchise, as multiple members of the crew fell victim to substance abuse issues that were both linked to their attempts to numb the literal pain they were subjected to in addition to the general trappings of the fame that came with their meteoric rise.
Ryan Dunn passed away in 2011 after crashing his car while drunk, and while Steve-O has been sober for over 16 years, Bam Margera has fought a lengthy and well-documented battle with the drug and alcohol issues that have led to multiple arrests and stints in rehab.
Those problems led to him being largely excluded from the most recent movie, but it appears he’s patched things up with the rest of the group ahead of the fifth after getting his life back on track.
Bam Margera is set to return in Jackass 5 after a bitter dispute led to him being excluded from the last film
Margera was a founding member of the Jackass gang, as he and the rest of the CKY crew (which also included Dunn and affiliates like Brandon DiCamillo and Raab Himself) caught the attention of Knoxville and longtime producer and director Jeff Tremaine with the skateboarding videos they were filming in his native Pennsylvania when the series got off the ground at the turn of the millennium.
Margera was coming off multiple stints in jail and rehab when production began on Jackass Forever, and things got very messy after he was kicked off the project in 2021 after supposedly violating the terms of a contract that reportedly required him to submit to regular drug tests while maintaining his sobriety.
He lashed out to the point where Tremaine successfully filed for a restraining order, and while his addiction issues continued to plague him, he appeared to turn the corner a couple of years ago and celebrated a year of sobriety on September 28, 2025.
In July, he shut down the notion of a possible Jackass reunion by saying “You couldn’t offer me enough money ” to return, but he’s apparently had a change of heart.
According to TMZ, Margera was informed a new Jackass movie was in the works last year, and he recently reached an agreement that will result in “old and never-before-seen footage” being included in the new installment.
The outlet notes it’s currently unclear if he filmed any new stunts specifically for the movie (it’s worth noting he was technically in Jackass Forever, as he made a brief appearance in the marching band scene), but it’s good to hear he’s been welcomed back into the fold in some form.
Knoxville revealed Jackass 5 was in the works on Wednesday, and it’s currently slated to hit theaters on June 26th.
