Chicago Man Orders Tito’s And Sprite. Then The Bartender Calls Him Out For Adding Grenadine To It—But Not For The Reason You Think

A man walked up to a Chicago bartender and asked her for a Tito’s and Sprite. When he asked her to add a shot of grenadine syrup to his drink, she clarified that it’s called a “Dirty Shirley.” However, the man refused to call it that.

In a video with over 57,000 views, TikToker and bartender Samantha Conway (@conway_titty) says, “Men are so funny” and recounts the interaction from the night before.

“This guy was probably 25 years old and he ordered a Tito’s Sprite. He’s like, ‘I’ll also take a shot of grenadine,'” she recounts. “So, I was like, ‘Oh, a Dirty Shirley?'”

What Is A ‘Dirty Shirley’?

A Dirty Shirley is a bar drink based on the non-alcoholic Shirley Temple, which is made with lemon-lime soda and grenadine. The only difference between the classic beverage and the bar drink is the added alcohol.

However, Conway says the man couldn’t accept the drink’s name.

“He’s like, ‘No. It’s Tito’s Sprite with a shot of grenadine,'” he insists. “Babes, that’s a Dirty Shirley.”

The man continues to assert that he wouldn’t order a “girly drink” and refuses to call it a Dirty Shirley.

To poke fun at the customer, Conway says she continued to ask him throughout the night if he wanted another Dirty Shirley.

“He was getting roasted by his friends. As he should. That’s fragile masculinity right there,” she says at the end of the clip.

Why Are Male Customers Weird About Ordering ‘Girly Drinks’?

While drink preferences don’t really have a gender, enough men worry about how it looks to order a fruity beverage that it’s become a hot topic on forums like Reddit.

One poster on r/RandomThoughts wrote, “It should be socially acceptable for guys to order fruity/girly drinks at the bar.”

In the comments, men took sides of the debate, sharing why they avoid certain “girly” drinks at the bar.

“Yeah I’m not really a drinker at all, but when I was 19-22 and I’d go out with friends, I’d get the fruity/girly drinks exclusively. Never had any shame doing it myself but I’d get other dudes mocking me relentlessly,” one shared.

Another defended their drink choice, writing, “If me sitting in my barstool drinking a strawberry margarita offends you or makes you question who I am as a person, be offended and dont bother finding out. It is OK. Our friendship was not meant to be.”

What Do Viewers Think Of The Man’s Order?

In the comments of Conway’s video, other bar goers call the man’s insecurity ridiculous.

One remarked, “Dude needs to own it and just enjoy the drink.”

“Damn I’d just own it. That actually sounds good. I think I’ll order one next time I’m out TY,” another wrote.

Others shared their experience with male customers trying to avoid a “girly” order.

“There’s this beer called a ‘Princess yum yum’ where I live. And when guys want it they say ‘Can I have a PYY?’ Like that’s so much more embarrassing than just saying it with your chest,” a viewer said.

A second added, “My 7’1 300lb roommate in college loved blended mango margaritas but wouldn’t order them.”
