There are plenty of animals you want to keep an eye out for if you find yourself roaming the wilderness in Colorado, but one employee at a hotel in Aspen had a pretty terrifying encounter with a bear who managed to make its way into the kitchen of a ski resort.

You don’t need to be a wildlife expert to know bears have an impressive ability to sniff out sources of food, and you need to take steps to minimize the chance you’ll attract them in areas they call home.

In a perfect world, bears would respect the boundaries we expect people to abide by, but unfortunately, they have a tendency to be some pretty shameless creatures who won’t think twice about breaking and entering in pursuit of a meal.

According to KDVR, a black bear in Aspen managed to infiltrate the St. Regis Resort on Monday night before a security guard employed by the hotel was tasked with responding to multiple reports concerning its presence in the building.

A security camera captured footage of the bear roaming an otherwise empty kitchen shortly before the employee made his way into the area. The animal can be seen disappearing around a corner as the unsuspecting man slowly makes his way toward its location before coming face-to-face with the animal that lunged at him and knocked him to the floor before striding away.

The outlet reports Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials used the surveillance video to identify the bear based on the distinct markings on its neck and made the decision to euthanize it after tracking it down and capturing it in downtown Aspen.

As you can see in the video, the bear did manage to get in a solid swipe that tore the employee’s shirt, and while he was treated for scratches, he was discharged from a local hospital shortly after being admitted.
