Speaking at the picket lines of the actors’ strike in Los Angeles earlier this week, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul star and beloved comedic mind Bob Odenkirk made some comments that could be taken as shots at Tom Cruise.
When asked about certain actors — one of which was reportedly Cruise, who is in the midst of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One‘s global release — wanting SAG waivers so they can promote their movies, Odenkirk had a simple and stark response.
“Don’t. It’s a strike. Strike. You lose. We lose. Everybody loses. That’s tough s—,” Odenkirk said while picketing outside of Paramount, which is the studio behind Cruise’s Mission: Impossible franchise.

Reports from earlier this week painted a different picture of Cruise, however, as he apparently put his weight behind the actors earlier this summer by acting the studios to hear out their concerns. That could have just been a carefully placed piece of PR, however, as these comments from Odenkirk seem to indicate that there’s more Cruise could and should be doing.
Cruise, if anything, should consider himself lucky as Dead Reckoning Part One hit theaters a few days before the strike officially began, meaning promotion of the film was largely finished. Oppenheimer, on the other hand, saw its cast walk out of the United Kingdom premiere due to the strike taking effect while they were in attendance.
There are also late July and August releases such as Haunted Mansion, Meg 2: The Trench, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, Gran Turismo, Blue Beetle, Strays, and more have to release without the benefit of any promotion from its stars.
Then, in September, films such as The Equalizer 3, The Creator, A Haunting In Venice, and Expend4bles are scheduled to release.
