‘Succession’ Star Brian Cox Sounds Like He Proper HATES American Actors

There are two things about Brian Cox that likely explain his hilariously honest matter of speaking: he’s both too old and too successful to be bothered to care otherwise.

And because of that fact, Cox — whose profile is arguably bigger than ever at 76 years old thanks to the success of Succession — has blessed us with some excellent quotes in recent years, such as these latest comments about his distaste of American actors and their penchant for their “method” style of preparation.

“I’m glad he [Jeremy Strong] is not in pain personally,” and praises Strong as ‘a wonderful actor.’ But there’s more. “It’s really a cultural clash. I don’t put up with all that American s***. I’m sorry. All that sort of ‘I think, therefore I feel.’”

“Just do the job,” Cox continues. “Don’t identify.” He points to the case of estimable Method actor Daniel Day-Lewis, with whom he worked on the 1997 film “The Boxer,” and blames those immersive techniques for Day-Lewis’ early retirement. “He retired at the age of 55, and I’m going, ‘That’s when the roles become really interesting. You’ve retired just at the point when actually the roles get better!’” Cox exclaims. [via Variety]

Cox is gearing up to star as Logan Roy in the fourth and final season of Succession, which is set to hit HBO on Sunday, March 26.

In addition to Cox and Strong, the final season of Succession stars Sarah Snook, Kieran Culkin, Alan Ruck, Matthew Macfadyen, Nicholas Braun, Alexander Skarsgård, Cherry Jones, Hope Davis, Justin Kirk, Stephen Root, J. Smith-Cameron, and more.

Here is the official synopsis for the final season batch of episodes of the hit HBO drama comedy:

“The sale of media conglomerate Waystar Royco to tech visionary Lukas Matsson moves ever closer. The prospect of this seismic sale provokes existential angst and familial division among the Roys as they anticipate what their lives will look like once the deal is complete. A power struggle ensues as the family weighs up a future where their cultural and political weight is severely curtailed.”
