Buc-ee’s has built a reputation as more than just a gas station. With its sparkling-clean bathrooms, beaver-branded merch, and famously addictive snacks, the chain has earned near-cult status across the South. But as one customer recently found out, not everyone is welcome inside. And it has nothing to do with people—but rather their close companions.
TikTok user Anthony Chapman (@tonyconnect) posted a video outside the Wharton, Texas, location while holding his dog, Lainey.
“We’re in the Wharton Buc-ee’s. And we just got thrown out, apparently,” he says at the start of the clip. According to Chapman, staff told him that “all Buc-ee’s do not allow dogs in their stores.”
“I’ve never been tossed out of a Buc-ee’s before,” he continues, adding that he and Lainey “will never be coming back… unless she becomes a service animal.”
Are Dogs Allowed Inside Buc-ee’s?
The answer is no—unless they’re service animals protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Like other businesses that sell and prepare food, Buc-ee’s follows health code regulations that prohibit pets inside. The rule is meant to keep the stores clean and safe, much like the policies at Walmart, H-E-B, or any major grocery chain.
Buc-ee’s Has Nothing Against Pets
That doesn’t mean Buc-ee’s is unfriendly to pets. Many locations feature grassy areas for dogs to take a break, complete with waste bag stations and trash bins. Inside, there’s even a section dedicated to pet supplies—everything from Buc-ee ’s-branded toys to travel essentials.
For travelers with pets, the best option is to rotate turns with a companion: one person goes inside while the other hangs outside with the dog.
@tonyconnect We got tossed out of @Buc-ee’s 😂 #bucees
Commenters Side With Buc-ee’s
Most viewers didn’t fault the store for enforcing its policy.
“Why do people think they can just take dogs everywhere?” one commenter asked.
“I’m old enough to remember when people could leave their home without taking their dogs,” another wrote.
Others chimed in with similar thoughts. “I love my dogs but they don’t belong in stores,” said one user. Another added, “It’s been known for a hundred years you’re not supposed to bring your dog into a store. I don’t know why people think it’s okay these days.”
