Grocery prices have risen sharply for many shoppers and rapper Cardi B took notice of this and tweeted about it. That tweet blew up but not in the way she expected.
Cardi B, real name Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar Cephus, tweeted “Naaaaaa grocery shopping prices are ridiculous right now 😑You might as well eat outside !!” She’s not wrong. Grocery prices are up (on average) 7.1% from November 2021 to November 2022.
A concrete example of this is how the average price of eggs was up 49.1% year over year, according to Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis data. Maybe that’s what Cardi B was thinking about when she fired off this tweet:
Naaaaaa grocery shopping prices are ridiculous right now 😑You might as well eat outside !!

That tweet split people into two camps with one side having a lot more people than the other. In the minority were people like this:

Cardi B has an estimated net worth of $80 million. She now has generational wealth. But it’s not as if she’s all that far removed from not being super rich. And just because she can afford something doesn’t mean she can’t have sticker shock.
On the flip side, most of the responses are from people who are like ‘sorry, you’re forever rich now and you don’t get to complain.’ Responses like this:

Fair point here from Boosh. Does Card B think ‘eat out’ is short for ‘eat outside’?
Does she mean “eat out”? Or is she talking about a picnic situation?

It’s not just suburbia that is feeling the pinch. NYC prices are ballooning as well:

We also have some people out here raising points a lot of people don’t want to hear:
Part of the problem is that there's becoming less places to go to find something cheaper.https://t.co/0g6bq6vQGt

It does feel like Cardi B just went grocery shopping for the first time in a year though:
I love how you’re literally a millionaire and still acknowledge real world everyday problems this is why you will always be famous❤️

It remains unclear when grocery prices will begin to come down as inflation eases. An article from the New Hampshire Bulletin in November discusses supply chain disruptions, the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, and other contributing factors.
I just hope the price of eggs drops soon.
