A Charlotte, N.C., woman decided she didn’t want to cook for a week, so she used her free will to pick up a large catering box from Chipotle. She tested out whether $50 of the chain’s ingredients is worth it.
TikToker Mallory Tutton (@mallorytutton) places the large cardboard box on her kitchen counter in a video with over 3.4 million views. She opens the box, unpacking a large container of pinto beans, chicken, cheese, rice, two bags of chips, sour cream, corn, lettuce, and pico de gallo.
Tutton divides the ingredients into six glass containers for her weekly meal prep. Each container holds half a cup of chicken, a cup of pinto beans, and a cup of rice. She individually packages the ingredients, like cheese and lettuce, to throw into her work bag.
The hack isn’t just a great cost saver, with each meal totaling less than $10. She says it also saves her time on cleanup.
“Typically for a weeks worth of meals, the amount of dishes I would have had to do would have filled up the entire washer,” she explains. “If this brings me more peace, so be it.”
How To Order The Chipotle Meal Prep Hack
Customers can buy the meal prep kit, officially called the Build Your Own Chipotle (BYOC), by placing an order online for pickup or delivery. The kit comes with four to six servings of ingredients to be portioned into individual meals.
“With ‘Build-Your-Own Chipotle,’ guests can use the Chipotle app or Chipotle.com to bring a personalized Chipotle makeline to their kitchen with just a few taps,” Chipotle CTO Curt Garner told BroBible in an email.
Chipotle customers are able to decide what kind of protein and beans they want in their kit, too.
You also don’t have to order too far in advance. According to Chipotle’s website, it takes around 15 minutes to assemble the kit, as long as all ingredients are in stock. However, it recommends ordering ahead of when you need the ingredients just to be on the safe side.
What Was Her Final Review Of The Hack?
In an update posted on Thursday, Tutton shares pictures of the meals she put together using the ingredients. She says she alternated between bowls and burritos using the catering ingredients.
She confesses that she was tired of the same ingredients by Thursday, so she made herself pasta instead.
Tutton also reviewed the freshness of the ingredients four days after picking up the box. She says the pico de gallo and cheese look “just fine.” However, the lettuce went brown on the edges by Thursday. “It’s not something I’ll eat every week, but it was fun for this one,” she says at the end of the clip. Tutton ultimately recommends the meal prep hack to others.
In the comments, viewers said they plan to order the Chipotle kit and compared the price to a meal from the chain.
“Only $50??? normally i’m against meal prep systems but this like cracked the code wow,” one wrote.
Another said, “As a weekly meal prepper who’s in grad school, internship, and working, this is very tempting.”
Others pointed out the great value of the $50 box compared to individual orders at Chipotle.
A commenter remarked, “The fact that this is only $50 when one burrito and a drink is $20.”
