DC Studios has released the first official trailer for 'Clayface'
The official trailer for DC Studios’ Clayface has been released. Clayface is set to be the third film in the DCU following last summer’s Superman and the box office bomb Supergirl from earlier this year.
Directed by Speak No Evil filmmaker James Watkins from a screenplay by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, DC Studios’ Clayface stars Tom Rhys Harries as deformed actor Matt Hagen/Clayface, Naomi Ackie as the scientist who creates him, and Max Minghella as a Gotham City detective.
Flanagan — director of films such as Hush, Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep, and TV series such as The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, and The Fall of the House of Usher — originated the project and wrote the script before scheduling conflicts forced him off.
Flanagan is currently in production of a reboot of The Exorcist starring Scarlett Johansson and a miniseries adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie for Prime Video.

Check out the official synopsis and trailer for Clayface, via DC Studios, below. Clayface will be released in theaters on October 23. Although Clayface is famously a Batman villain, it does not appear as though the Dark Knight will feature in this film.
“Matt Hagen’s meteoric rise from Gotham street kid to Hollywood leading man is tragically cut short when a local crime boss’s actions leave him horribly disfigured. Abandoned by his team and with nothing left, Matt seeks out a cutting edge treatment that miraculously returns him to his former self… but also unexpectedly affects his grip on reality, spiraling him down a destructive path of all-consuming revenge.”
In addition to Harries, Ackie and Minghella, Clayface — which will be released in movie theaters in the United States on Friday, October 23, 2026 — also stars Eddie Marsan and David Dencik.
With a budget of just $40 million, DC Studios and co-CEO James Gunn will be hoping that Clayface is a massive hit following the disappointing performance of Supergirl, which ranks among the lowest-grossing live-action DC films ever made with just $121 million at the global box office.
