It’s been more than five years since Tesla unveiled its vision for the futuristic vehicle dubbed the Cybertruck, which marked the start of a rocky development cycle that technically came to an end when the company began to deliver them to customers at the end of 2023.

However, it sure looks like the engineers might need to go back to the drawing board after one owner highlighted an incredibly alarming issue with the accelerator pedal.

Elon Musk was obviously hoping the Cybertruck was going to be The Next Big Thing with the potential to turn the automotive world on its head when the concept initially surfaced. However, barring a wildly unexpected twist, it doesn’t seem like that’s going to be the case.

It took years for Tesla to work out the many issues it encountered while attempting to bring the Cybertruck—which retails for a minimum of $60,000—to fruition. However, it seemingly failed to address some of them when you consider people have complained about sizeable panel gaps, floods of alerts concerning potentially “critical” problems, and stainless steel that’s susceptible to rusting

Now, MotorBiscuit reports we can add another concern to that list courtesy of a Cybertruck owner who was thankfully able to avoid a disaster after discovering an issue with his accelerator pedal, which led to his vehicle being stuck at full throttle after a piece came off and ended up lodged in a manner that’s virtually impossible to address while driving.

The man said he was able to override the accelerator by using the brake before putting the Cybertruck in park. However, he correctly noted other people may panic when presented with a similar situation that has the potential to unfold at a moment where a sudden and uncontrollable acceleration could have deadly consequences.

According to ArsTechnica, that video was posted around the same time people who were awaiting a Cybertruck delivery were informed they’ve been postponed until at least April 20th. While they weren’t provided with an official explanation for what Tesla simply described as “an unexpected delay,” a source asserts it stems from concerns with the gas pedal.

In potentially related news, Tesla has also announced it plans to reduce its global workforce by 10% as it struggles to buoy sales and stand out among an increasingly crowded pack of electric vehicle manufacturers.
