At Star Wars Celebration in London on Friday, Lucasfilm announced a trio of new films, including one that will feature the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey, the protagonist of the most recent trilogy of films.

According to Lucasfilm, Ridley will be starring in the project from Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, which will be set 15 years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and will follow Rey as she attempts to rebuild the Jedi Order.

Given the divisive nature of Star Wars fandom these days, the reactions to the announcement were largely all over the map, ranging from aghast to thrilled:

The fact remains that while there were certainly many issues with Disney’s sequel trilogy (although, to be fair, it didn’t *really* go off the rails until The Rise of Skywalker), Ridley’s Rey was absolutely not one of them.

In addition to the announcement of Ridley’s return as Rey in Obaid-Chinoy’s Star Wars film, Lucasfilm also announced an additional two feature film projects.

The first will be helmed by current Star Wars shepherd Dave Filoni and is being described as a “conclusion” to the Mandoverse, which currently consists of series such as The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and the upcoming Disney+ series Ahsoka.

Then, and perhaps most excitingly, there’s a film in the works from Logan and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny filmmaker James Mangold. That project will reportedly tell the story of the first-ever Jedi and is being described as a “biblical epic.”

At this time, none of the projects announced at Star Wars Celebration have been given official release dates, and considering Lucasfilm’s recent history with following through on announced movies, it’d be wise not to hold your breath for any of them to come to fruition. Except for the Mangold one, because he’s the man and should never be douvted.
