In a scene that looks like it came straight out of The Dukes of Hazzard, a dashcam in a family’s truck captured some insane, one in a million footage of a car being launched and flying through the air, narrowly missing some power lines, then crash landing on the highway below before coming to rest on its roof.
In the footage, screams can be heard as the witnesses to the car flying over Highway 99 in Yuba City, Calif. were left shocked before immediately calling 911 for assistance with the crashed vehicle.
Brian Conejo, who works at nearby Mechanical and Irrigation Solutions, watched the crash on the company’s surveillance cameras after showing up for work.
“Pretty crazy to see someone flying through the air,” he said. “Probably caught like 50 feet of air, I’d say.”
Conejo added, “On camera, when we got to review the tape and we got to see the person actually like beating the cars down the freeway, they’d probably do an 80 to 100 miles an hour, in like a 25 zone.”
California Highway Patrol reported that prior to the insane jump the vehicle had been involved in a hit-and-run moments earlier while driving backwards and exiting an on-ramp.
“They came flying straight through here. There’s a really hard left-hand turn up here,” said Conejo. “They failed to make that turn, just kept going straight and literally went flying over the top of that whole overpass.”
Miraculously, police reported that the woman driving the flying car was not intoxicated and after being taken to a nearby hospital she walked out with only minor injuries.
Pretty amazing considering how hard the vehicle hit the ground and then rolled over a couple times before coming to a rest on its roof.
Even more amazing when taking into consideration the fact that the car barely missed a set of power lines during its flight.
“It looks like they pretty much threaded the needle between the power lines,” said Conejo. “We would have lost power. It probably would have started a fire in all that dead grass. It could have been a lot worse for them, I’m sure.”
