Christopher Mellon, a former high-ranking official in the U.S. Defense Department, says U.S. military leaders are baffled by UFO sightings over bases. According to his estimates, hundreds of incidents involving unidentified anomalous phenomena, or UAPs, occur annually over American military bases.
“I’m sorry to say these kind of incursions have been happening at bases all over the United States and overseas. It isn’t as widely known as it ought to be,” Mellon told Elizabeth Vargas Reports last week.
Mellon and Vargas recalled one incident in which UFOs violated airspace over Langley Air Force Base in Virginia for 17 consecutive days, forcing authorities to relocate a squadron of F-22 fighter jets.
“These kinds of intrusions are actually disrupting military operations, so if the air combat command at Langley can’t control its own airspace, then you wonder how effectively they could protect Washington and other cities,” Mellon said. “It’s really hard to believe that we weren’t able to track these things down. But that is, in fact, the case.”
These UFOs appear to be trying to ‘provoke us’ in some cases
Former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence Christopher Mellon added that “in some cases they seem to be very deliberately trying to provoke us.”
“This happened with some of our navy ships at sea, for example, where occasionally they’ve gone right up to the bridge of a ship and shone a light into it,” he continued. “Like, just in case you didn’t know that we’re flying around your ship. You know, we are in your face, and you can’t do anything about it.
“There are some extraordinary things about this pattern because this has been going, you know, night after night with scores and scores of these objects, unlike what we see with typical drones, none of these things that malfunctioned, none have fallen out of the sky, none of them have been vulnerable to our anti-drone technology. So it’s a very capable system, whatever it is. And whoever is flying it. And they’ve demonstrated the ability at will to operate directly over our most sensitive facilities.”
Are these UFOs drones or are they ‘something else’?
When Vargas asked Mellon if, in some cases, these UFOs may not be drones, but “something else,” he had an interesting response.
“We don’t know,” he replied. “That’s part of the problem is it’s a mystery. So in some cases, it probably is drones. In other cases, it seems to be something more advanced. And this has been going on for many, many years, for decades, back to World War 2, but not as aggressively, not as much in our faces as we’ve been experiencing lately.”
He added that in some cases, these UFOs displayed “incredible kinds of performances [that] surpass anything that we have on the books, even on the drawing board.”
“For example, in some cases, the drones have gone inside a larger craft, and that larger craft instantaneously accelerated directly away from the target area at extreme velocities, the kind of speeds that are not attainable with drones,” he said.
