Marvel Studios

  • Marvel Studios has dropped the first teaser for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
  • The film is a sequel to 2016’s Doctor Strange.
  • Benedict Cumberbatch, who stars in the film, says it’s one of the “most ambitious” superhero films ever made.

After being attached to Spider-Man: No Way Home as one of the two post-credit scenes, Marvel Studios has officially released the first trailer for the highly-anticipated Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which will hit theaters in the United States on Friday, May 6. The film was previously scheduled to release on March 25 but had to be delayed due to reshoots.

Based on the first trailer, it appears as though Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be continuing the plot threads of Doctor Strange (obviously), WandaVision, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

While the trailer is full of insane multiversal aspects, the obvious highlight is the appearance of a seemingly evil version of Doctor Strange, which very well could be the Doctor Strange Supreme that was seen in the Disney+ animated series What If…?.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness — which stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, Benedict Wong as Wong, Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo, and Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez — is currently scheduled to hit theaters in the United States on May 6, 2022.

The film is just one of many Marvel Cinematic Universe films slated for 2022, as Thor: Love and Thunder and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever are also set to hit theaters next year, not to mention the bevy of original series, such as Moon Knight, that will debut on Disney+.
