Will Ferrell’s twin brother, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, is going viral for a video that showcases just how impressive professional musicians are and how extraordinary he is in particular.

The premise is simple. A song is played for him that he’s never heard before. This is achieved by queueing up a few songs in case he’s heard the first or second one (he hadn’t). Chad Smith then proceeds to play the song nearly flawlessly, in real time, despite having never heard it before and learning it as he goes.

Chad Smith Crushes The Drums On Thirty Seconds To Mars Song He’s Never Heard Before

The song is ‘The Kill’ by Jared Leto’s band, Thirty Seconds To Mars. The drummer in Thirty Seconds To Mars is Jared Leto’s brother Shannon. And while Chad Smith was familiar with the band’s existence he had most certainly never heard the song until now.

Nailed it. He absolutely nailed it. Sure, it wasn’t the exact drum track from start to finish that Thirty Seconds To Mars plays but his performance could be shown to someone who has never heard the song before and they would 100% assume it was the original track. That’s how good it was.

The top comment on the video sums it up well. It reads “By far this is the best episode of this concept. Chad is a stellar drummer. He said it’s not in his wheelhouse but his wheelhouse is so big I don’t think that was entirely accurate.”

Chad Smith’s video has racked up over 2 million views in 5 days on the Drumeo YouTube channel. It has also been shared to Reddit where people are in awe of Will Ferrell‘s musical improv skills.

In fact, most of the Reddit comments are Will Ferrell references which means it is as good of a time as any to bring back this video of Chad Smith and Will Ferrell having a drum-off.

Will Ferrell really held his own in that drum off from Fallon back in 2021. It is a shame these two haven’t started a podcast together at this point. Their chemistry is undeniable. But what else should we expect from twin brothers separated at birth?
