Trying out a new food or beverage item should be a low-stress, exciting part of your day. But one Dutch Bros customer learned that’s not always the case after she tried a new Dutch Bros drink and spilled it on herself. Not only did it stain her shirt, but she says it “bleached” it.
TikTok creator Molly (@molly_2025_) paints the scene in the text overlay, “When I just drank the new Dutch Bros drink and I spilled it on myself and it BLEACHED my shirt.” While standing inside a Dollar Tree, she holds up the culprit: an empty Stardust Myst Energy Refresher. Then, she shows the brownish stain her drink left on her blue shirt.
‘Not Surprised’
Molly’s video amassed 1.1 million views. Unlike Molly, her viewers were not surprised in the slightest.
“My boyfriend works at dutch and whenever i do his laundry im shocked at the 87 colors on his clothes,” one viewer comemnted.
“Honestly yeah. that makes sense considering all of the dyes and additives,” a second remarked.
Because of all this information, a third added, “and you guys consume this… what.”
Moreover, other alleged Dutch Bros employees cracked jokes about how accurate this is.
“The bottle it comes in looks like bleach so…fitting,” one commenter revealed.
“Funny enough we walk around calling the [myst] the bleach bottle,” a second stated.

How Would The Dutch Bros Drink Stain Her Shirt?
Like most big-name coffee chains, Dutch Bros uses food dye in some of its beverages, thanks to the syrups. Although it’s unknown if the Stardust Myst Energy Refresher has dyes, it does contain vitamin C along with strawberry and watermelon flavors. Vitamin C could very well be the culprit here.
According to Oregon State University, vitamin C is known in scientific terms as “ascorbic acid” (or more specifically, “L-ascorbic acid”). Naturally, this vitamin is a plain white, crystalline solid that is notorious for its tendency to oxidize easily. When ascorbic acid is exposed to air, it is converted to dehydroascorbic acid, giving it the ability to discolor.
How To Remove Oxidization Stains
Whether you wind up in Molly’s situation or spot yellowing on your fabrics, Heritage Park Laundry Essentials recommends:
- Wash the material in warm water with a cup of white vinegar.
- Run it in the washing machine with a cup of baking soda.
- Use an enzyme-based detergent to wash the material or oxygen bleach detergent.
