Johnny Depp stars in the first trailer for Ti West's 'Ebenezer'
The first trailer for Ebenezer, Johnny Depp’s first Hollywood movie since 2018, has been released. Ebenezer will hit theaters on November 13.
Johnny Depp last appeared in a mainstream Hollywood movie in 2018 (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald), having fallen out of the business due to his legal issues with Amber Heard. In a meta reference to Depp’s real-life controversies, the trailer ends with Scrooge saying “It’s good to be back.” Ebenezer is directed by Ti West, the filmmaker behind X, Pearl, and MaXXXine.

In addition to Depp, the film also stars Rupert Grint, Andrea Riseborough, Sam Claflin, Daisy Ridley, Arthur Conti, Ellie Bamber, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Charlie Murphy, Trmell Tillman and Ian McKellen.
Since 2018, Depp has starred in just three movies, all of which were overseas productions: Waiting for the Barbarians (2019), Minamata (2020), and Jeanne du Barry (2023). He also directed and produced the 2024 film Modì, Three Days on the Wing of Madness.
Depp and Heard were married from 2015 to 2016, divorcing after just over a year amid mutual allegations of domestic abuse. In 2018, Heard wrote a Washington Post op-ed describing herself as a victim of domestic abuse without naming Depp directly. Depp then sued her for defamation in Virginia, claiming the op-ed implied he abused her and cost him acting work, including his role in Disney’s lucrative Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
Heard countersued, alleging Depp’s team had defamed her by calling her allegations a hoax. The trial began in 2022 under massive media scrutiny and the jury eventually sided largely with Depp, awarding him $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages (later reduced), while also awarding Heard $2 million on her countersuit.
In addition to Ebenezer later this year, Depp will also be starring alongside Penelope Cruz and Madelyn Cline in Lionsgate’s Day Drinker from 500 Days of Summer, The Amazing Spider-Man, and Snow White director Marc Webb, which will hit theaters next March.
Heard, on the other hand, has starred in just three movies since 2019, two of which were in Zack Snyder’s now-defunct DCEU: Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021), In the Fire (2023), and Aquaman and theLost Kingdom (2023). She is not attached to any upcoming projects at this time.
