Now that the actors’ strike is finally over, news has begun to flood out of Hollywood, such as this new report that A24 is developing a biopic about controversial billionaire Elon Musk.

As first reported by Puck News, A24 is circling The Whale, Black Swan, and Requiem for a Dream filmmaker Darren Aronofsky to direct the film about the 52-year-old South African.

The film will be based on Walter Isaacson’s authorized biography about Musk, which was published back in September. Isaacson also wrote the biography that was turned into the Best Picture-nominated Steve Jobs in 2015.

According to Variety, sources say there was a “heated competition to option Isaacson’s book from studios and filmmakers alike, with A24 ultimately winning the bidding war.”

Musk, who is the richest man in the world, launched his company SpaceX in 2002 and was also an early investor in Tesla, where he eventually became CEO.

Most recently, Musk spent $44 billion on Twitter in late 2022. Last month, reports indicated that the company is worth about $19 billion.

Musk has also become a controversial political figure due to his participation in and proliferation of right-wing misinformation and conspiracy theories.

While no casting announcements have been made, it’s certainly possible that Aronofsky could turn to Brendan Fraser to play Musk, as they just worked together on The Whale in a performance that won the Academy Award for Best Actor. The pair also have enough of a resemblance to each other that it’d be believable.

In addition to the aforementioned trio of The Whale, Black Swan, and Requiem for a Dream, Aronofsky has also directed the films Pi, The Fountain, The Wrestler, Noah, and Mother!.

Aronofsky also recently directed Postcard from Earth, which is the nature film that plays at The Sphere in Las Vegas.

At this time, the Elon Musk biopic does not have an official release date.
