Elon Musk triggered a lot of responses on Monday when he tweeted a photograph of two ‘guns’ and 4 caffeine-free Diet Cokes on his bedside table. But eagle-eyed observers were quick to notice that neither ‘gun’ Elon Musk boasted about was real.
One is a non-firing replica sold as ‘George Washington Boxed Set’ for just $124 online. It is a non-firing replica of ‘George Washington’s classic holster pistol.’ The gift set also features a reproduction of the iconic ‘Crossing The Delaware’ inside a velveteen box. That ‘gun’ cannot be converted into a firing pistol.
And the other is a replica from a movie and it doesn’t even have a trigger. Many are saying it’s a replica from Blade Runner (1982) and again, it doesn’t even have a trigger.
Here is Elon Musk’s now infamous picture of his bedside table with two toy guns and 4 caffeine-free Diet Cokes. I mention the ‘caffeine free’ part again because that might honestly be the strangest thing about this post from Elon Musk. Why on earth is he opting to drink that many caffeine-free Diet Cokes?!

What are the guns that Elon Musk tweeted?
Plenty of people in the comments confirmed that these were nothing more than replicas or toys:
It is replica from Blade Runner. A toy. Cool tho

The website pictured here is actually sold out of the ‘Deluxe George Washington Boxed Set.’ But the caption is 100% spot on. It looks exactly like something that would be sold on QVC in the middle of the night:

It is odd that Elon Musk was sitting around at 4:48 AM EST and decided that this bedside table full of toys and trash would make a great tweet. We could spend hours discussing why Elon Musk tweeted out these guns. But the reality is he has the whole Twitter world discussing it to start the week.
Elon is a master at keeping the conversation going even when the conversation is about nothing at all. Elon Musk followed his guns tweet up with this:
There is no excuse for my lack of coasters

The replies to Elon’s early morning ‘guns’ tweet are on par with what one might expect but this one really sums it up:

Others are chiming in with ‘My bedside table’ jokes of their own:

Of course, Elon Musk could wake up and say ‘obviously, they’re replicas.’ He likely will admit the guns are fake. But it goes down as one of the stranger moments of his Twitter takeover.
