While Barbie is loaded with tons of A-list actors, there’s only one of them that can claim to be the star’s doppelganger, and that’s Emma Mackey.
Ever since the 27-year-old Mackey burst onto the scene a few years ago, the comparisons between her and Margot Robbie, the 33-year-old star of Barbie, have followed her virtually everywhere.
That certainly isn’t a bad thing, though, as Robbie is not only considered to be one of the most beautiful women in the world but their similarities actually resulted in Mackey landing a role in Barbie.
Mackey, who will be playing “Physicist Barbie” in the film, was apparently cast so they could make a lookalike joke, although the line has apparently been cut from the final film.
“We were going to do this whole joke about us [her and Mackey] looking similar,” Robbie said in one of those puppy-filled interviews that Buzzfeed does.
“[But] once we got all dressed up as our Barbies, we were kind of like, ‘We don’t look that similar.’ When she’s got her brown hair, and I’ve got my blonde hair, so we didn’t put that joke in the movie.”
This certainly isn’t the first time that anyone has noticed the similarities between the two as their resemblance was first pointed out when she began starring in the Netflix series Sex Education back in 2019.
In addition to Sex Education and Barbie, Mackie’s brief career also includes the 2020 TV movie The Winter Lake, the 2021 film Eiffel, and a pair of projects in 2022: Emily and Death on the Nile. Prior to Barbie, Mackey’s biggest role was a particularly scene-stealing in Death on the Nile.
