The Boys star Erin Moriarty has announced that she is leaving social media due to abuse she believes she received from Megyn Kelly.

Kelly, a current podcast and radio show host who is perhaps best known for being fired by NBC after doing a segment about blackface on The Today Show, made comments about Moriarty’s appearance during a recent episode of The Megyn Kelly Show, suggesting that she has gotten plastic surgery done.

“It’s not about an objection to plastic surgery,” Kelly said while discussing photos of the 29-year-old Moriarty. “It’s about an obsession with turning yourself into this fake version of yourself… I find it like a sign of mental illness. I really want to get in the heads of these young girls and say, ‘Please don’t do this.’”

In a statement posted to Instagram, Moriarty announced that Kelly’s comments have pushed her to stop using social media and that her Instagram profile will only remain active so that it can display her message to Kelly.

“To receive a message about a disgustingly false, counterproductive to the degree of being ironically misogynistic video of Megyn Kelly commenting on the manner — to learn the widespread nature of this left me horrified,” Moriarty’s statement reads in part, explaining that her recent weight loss was due to stress.

Moriarty also says that the photo Kelly used as a “before” picture was not from “one year ago” as Kelly claimed but rather from a decade ago before she was able to legally drink.

“Megyn used a photo taken ‘a year ago’ according to her, that had in actuality been taken a decade ago before I was of LEGAL DRINKING AGE (I’m about to turn 30) as an example (maybe do some research that would take 30 seconds). How utterly misinformed, inaccurate, and clickbait seeking people who we follow and consider to be informed is appalling.”

In addition to the hit Prime Video series The Boys, Moriarty has also starred in projects such as True Detective (she played the daughter of Woody Harrelson’s character in season 1), Jessica Jones, Captain Fantastic, and Kong: Skull Island.
