Everyone is looking for the best diet or weight loss program, but could it be as easy as simply making your meals ahead of time with some savvy food prep? One couple believe that the key to weight loss is extreme food prep.

Meet 39-year-old John Clark and his 34-year-old girlfriend Charlotte Deniz. The couple from the U.K. have lost a combined 200 pounds by merely imploying a simple weight loss program of calorie counting and stringent food prep.

Every Sunday, John spends six hours carefully preparing the couple’s meals for the week. There is no specific diet plan, such as keto, Mediterranean, vegan, or paleo. The meals can consist of anything from burgers to tacos to pasta to chocolate donuts. The only rule is that every meal — breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack — must be 400 calories or less.

The results of the extreme food prep have been extraordinary for the British couple. John, who is a truck driver from Greater Manchester, England, has lost more than 112 pounds and Charlotte lost 88 pounds.

The meal prep not only helps them lose weight but also gives the couple more free time during the week because all of their meals are already cooked. “We get so much more done during the week not having to think too much about food,” John said on Instagram. “As it’s already done. The productivity this creates during the week for us is priceless. I manage to get so much more done in the week, it’s well worth the hours we give up on a Sunday.”

The other incredible aspect of this couple’s extreme food preparation system is that since they are preparing their own meals, they’re saving a lot of money. The couple, who are behind the Instagram account @themealprepking, say they only spend a total of $165 a month on groceries. That’s three meals a day, plus snacks. Pretty incredible.

John prepares signature dishes such as veggie kebabs, chicken pizza, Italian sausage and chickpea casserole, buffalo chicken-stuffed sweet potato skins with cheese, double-chocolate protein donuts, and even a healthier version of the Big Mac.

John changes the menu every week to keep it exciting.

Proud of their colorful cooking, the couple shares their meal preps online, where they have thousands of followers.

“We make absolutely everything from scratch and we eat whatever we want,” said Clark. “It’s not a diet. I love what I eat and enjoy every mouthful.”

“The way we eat is amazing,” Deniz said. “It’s a way of life that I couldn’t live without now.”
