Florida Rejected Over 500 Personalized License Plates In 2021: Full List

In what has become an annual tradition, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) released its list rejected license plate requests for 2021.

According to Florida state law, “The department is authorized to reject requests deemed by it to be objectionable, and the department is further authorized to recall, during a registration period, any issued personalized license plate determined by it to be obscene or otherwise objectionable.”

In 2021, there were 520 personalized license plate requests Florida that were rejected under those terms.

“Personalized license plate requests received by the department with obscene or objectionable words will be rejected,” a spokesperson with FLHSMV said in a statement. “If a personalized license plate has been issued and later determined to be obscene or objectionable, the department will recall the license plate. Personalized license plate orders are reviewed for obscene or objectionable material by staff in tax collector or FLHSMV offices when initial applications are processed and also screened through the department’s Inventory Control Unit. Customers can contact FLHSMV or their local tax collector’s office to file a complaint should they encounter a plate that is obscene or objectionable.”

Hundreds of personalized license plate requests were rejected all over America in 2021

Florida isn’t the only state to have recently released their list of rejected personalized plates.

Oregon also rejected dozens of requests (full list here) including SLO-AF, BEEEER, FLI NHI, MRWEED, BOOBIS, AHS0L, H0RNE1, and SHART.

“We Google things,” said David House, spokesperson for the Oregon DMV, told KOIN 6 News. “We use Urban Dictionary. Slang changes a lot, so we need to make sure that some of the things that are run by our desk don’t violate these very basic rules that have been in place for decades.”
