‘Join Me At The Bar When You’re Done’: Man Dines At Famous Florida Steakhouse. Then An ‘Older Gentleman’ Approaches Him—And Asks For A Word

A man recounted a wild story from West Palm, Fla., in which an older man asked him to date his young adult daughter for $1,000. Viewers shared split opinions on whether the situation actually happened or if it’s too good to be true.

The video was originally posted by TikToker Drayton Nay (@draytonnay) in 2024 and began recirculating on several other TikTok accounts in 2026.

He shares that he was eating at the Raindancer Steakhouse a few years ago. An older man approached him at his dinner table and asked him to join him at the bar after his meal. Nay says he asked the man if something was wrong, but the older man assured him he just wanted to talk.

When Nay asked for the check, the server informed him that the older man who approached him earlier took care of the bill. So, he walked up to the bar to see what he wanted.

He noticed that the older man was sitting with his young adult daughter. The older man explained that he was looking for a man to take his daughter for a night out in West Palm. He offered to pay Nay $1,000 just to listen to his pitch for 15 minutes.

Did He Get $1,000 To Take Her On A Date?

“He says, ‘I’m tired and old and don’t get around well, so I would like you to take her out on the town tomorrow night,'” Nay recalls.

Nay says he agreed and picked up the woman the next day for their date, pocketing the $1,000. The older man also assured him that he would pay for all of the date’s expenses.

He took the woman to a nice dinner and says the pair had a great time. Then he asked her where she wanted to go after dinner.

“She says, ‘Well, I’ll just give you directions. Let’s get in the car,'” he recounts. “I can see that we’re heading to the Ritz.”

He says he dropped the car off with valet, and they walked up to the front desk.

“She doesn’t even say a word. She just walks to the front desk, they hand her the key, she hands it to me,” he continues. “Needless to say, we had an amazing time—all night long.”

He woke up the next day to find the woman gone, with only a note thanking him and telling him he can stay as long as he wants. He says she signed the note “Elsa.”

Is It Weird For Dads To Set Their Daughters Up?

While few people have a story as wild as Nay’s, some men on Reddit said they’ve been approached by co-workers or older acquaintances who want them to go on a date with their daughters.

One man said his co-worker showed him a picture of his 21-year-old daughter and wanted to set them up on a date. He wrote on the r/relationship_advice subreddit, “What do I do? I mean she’s very attractive but do I really want a relationship right now? Plus it feels kinda forced.”

Commenters shared their opinions on whether it’s weird for the woman’s dad to set her up on a date with his co-worker.

One said it’s a compliment, writing, “That sounds really awkward- but at the same time it’s a huge compliment. The fact that he wishes to set you up with his ( adult ) little girl shows how highly he thinks of you as a person.”

However, another suggested the man go with his gut and avoid the awkward set up. They wrote, “Yeah it sounds super awkward. I think things should be good if you do tell him because again you have very good reasons as to why you shouldn’t date her.”

Did The Situation Actually Happen?

In the comments of Nay’s video, some viewers questioned if the story is real or completely made up.

One asked, “Is that a real story. Lol.” Nay responded, “Yes.”

“I’m calling bull crap on this one,” a second commenter remarked.

However, some commenters insisted that similar situations have happened to them.

“I believe you, cause I met an American family on holidays in Ireland and by chance he asked me to show him Galway city I did no charge he returned the favour by bringing my family to USA for 3 weeks,” a viewer claimed.

Another insisted, “That happend to me on palm beach.”
