While most vacationers travel to Florida to enjoy the lagoons and ocean from the shoreline, this unique Key Largo hotel takes visitors underwater. However, prospective visitors are split on whether they would stay in the below-surface accommodations.
TikToker and travel influencer Joe Bender (@joebendertravel) highlights the underwater hotel, Jules’ Undersea Lab, in a recent viral video. The TikTok garnered nearly 1 million views.
He jokes that he’s either “freaked out or obsessed” with the hotel, which is located 30 feet below the surface and only accessible by scuba diving.
“Yeah, the view is cool, but if you had an issue, you would be literally 30-feet under and stuck,” he remarks. “But they deliver pizza. … It’s like a full-service hotel.”
What’s Included In The Underwater Hotel Stay?
While visitors can stay overnight, Jules’ Undersea Lab isn’t a typical hotel. The hotel offers a 2-day/1-night stay for couples for $1,800. So, visitors can’t spend their entire week-long vacation underwater. The package includes educational and diving activities and three meals a day.
Visitors have to be certified scuba divers to stay at the hotel. However, unlicensed divers can get their certificate for $100 on-site.
There are also a few unique rules that you won’t see at other hotels. Due to diving safety concerns, visitors can’t stay at the underwater hotel by themselves.
For visitors who don’t want to spend the night in the lagoon, Jules’ Undersea Lab also offers three-hour daytime diving tours of the facility.
Would Viewers Stay In The Underwater Hotel?
Viewers of the viral TikTok pointed to a viral 2023 review by YouTuber Safiya Nygaard, who stayed in the underwater hotel. Some said watching the YouTuber stay overnight was “enough” for them.
“I saw the Safiya Nygard video and that was ennoug for me. I dont have to go,” one remarked.
Another asked, “Y’all haven’t watched the Safiya Nygaard video about this place?”
Others said staying underwater overnight would send them into a panic.
“No thanks. I like having my panic attacks above sea level,” a viewer said.
A second exclaimed, “NEVER EVER EVER EVER will you catch me here.”
“I don’t trust Florida to not Florida. Hard pass,” another joked.
However, others said the TikToker’s video piqued their interest about the underwater hotel.
“How did i not know this in my 27 years of living and I am from Miami, Florida….,” a commenter wrote.
“I know where I’m going if there’s a zombie apocalypse,” another viewer suggested.
