George Strait made history at Kyle Field this weekend as he played in front of 110,000 screaming fans. The concert not only set records at the box office, but it provided some incredible scenes in College Station.

Aggie fans who didn’t make the trip up to Omaha to watch the baseball team were in for a treat. Strait sold out the Texas A&M football stadium, playing for a crowd larger than any the Ags have ever seen.

That football venue hosts crowds of more than 100,000 raucous fans weekly, with the program setting its attendance record in the 2014 season during a game vs. Ole Miss with a group of 110,633 people.

Strait bested that by about 300 on Saturday!

Announcing a grand total of 110,905 patrons, the show is reported to have been the largest single ticketed concert in United States history!

More from Whiskey Riff:

George filled that college football stadium with 110,905 people… just the largest ticketed crowd in United States history. The King’s crowd bests the previously held record by The Grateful Dead, who hosted 107,019 Deadheads in 1977 at Raceway Park in New Jersey.

The crowd also breaks the Kyle Field attendance record (a 2014 game against Ole Miss), and Strait also holds the record for largest indoor ticketed concert attendance in North America with 104,793 fans at AT&T Stadium for The Cowboy Rides Away Tour in June 2014.

George Strait concert produces incredible scenes.

Though his son is an A&M grad, this was Strait’s Kyle Field introduction, and it’s safe to say it didn’t disappoint! He hit the stage with a pair of fellow Lone Star State natives, Parker McCollum and Catie Offerman.

With each passing song, the stadium broke into a venue-wide singalong.

He fittingly closed with, “The Cowboy Rides Away,” signaling the end of the show as he thanked the record crowd for coming out.

The last goodbye’s the hardest one to say,
This is where the cowboy rides away.

We’ve seen similar scenes in other SEC stadiums, most recently in Baton Rouge when the LSU Tigers hosted Garth Brooks.

As for George Strait, The King will now continue on with his 2024 concert tour where he’ll soon play in other football venues like Ford Field, Soldier Field, and Allegiant Stadium. We’ll see if any of those can top this historic show in College Station.
