Georgia Bulldogs football players apparently aren’t the only celebrities who are having a tough time understanding and following traffic laws.
Police in Dortmund, Westphalia, Germany were baffled recently when speed cameras caught an image of beloved Sesame Street character Cookie Monster speeding through the streets of town.
Police spokesman Peter Bandermann told Newsflash that the character was spotted driving 60 miles per hour in a 50-mile-per-hour zone.
The level of speed led police to believe that the cookie-obsessed monster, whose full name is Sidney Monster, or someone trying to imitate him was attempting to deliberately get caught on camera.
“The fun of wearing a mask from ‘The Muppet Show’ can quickly turn serious,” Bandermann said of the incident.
He also did not seem to see any amusement in the incident.
“It won’t help the relatives of a person who has been killed if the person who did it tearfully regrets their mask fun in court,” Bandermann said.
Police said that Cookie Monster, or his imposter, will be fined the equivalent of $50.
Cookie Monster Has A Sordid Past That Is Affecting Sesame Street Ratings
In 2023, police in Santa Cruz, California addressed claims of Cookie Monster “yelling obscenities and taunting locals” according to the New York Post.
“We are getting calls from people who say he is ‘creepy,’” police spokeswoman Joyce Blaschke said in a statement to The Post. “Based on his history, we advise the public to not engage with this individual. Steer clear from him.”
This is now several strikes from Cookie Monster. But neither the blue monster, nor Sesame Street representives appear ready to address his behavior.
It appears the Sesame Street officials plan to take the Kirby Smart approach of “ignore and hope it goes away.”
While that worked for Smart, winning him two college football national titles, it may not work for the show.
A 2022 study showed that the famed show’s ratings are in a steady decline. Likely due to the questionable behavior of its star characters.
