Eva Barilo, the young woman in this video, suffers from alopecia.
Alopecia is an autoimmune condition that attacks a person’s immune system and leads to patches of hair loss. Different people have varying reactions to the conditions. Some people essentially outgrow the condition as they age or experience only one bout of hair loss. Others live with the condition for their entire lives.
“After months growing my hair for the first time in ten years,” Barilaro explains, “I had to ask my boyfriend to shave my head again.”
Barilo’s boyfriend, Damien, had no problems shaving her head. Both were ready for the emotional moment. But Barilo wasn’t ready for her boyfriend’s reaction to her shaved head.
After finishing the bathroom buzz on Eva, Damien doesn’t hesitate in shaving a straight line right down the middle of his own head.

In the YouTube caption of the same video, Barilaro says that her boyfriend told her after shaving his head, “Just like you.”
“My boyfriend surprised me by shaving his head just after shaving mine,” Barilaro wrote on YouTube. “I will be forever grateful for being so well surrounded. I wish everyone could be supported as well as I am daily. This video is to remember everyone that love is above all, and that all one’s need is love. Thank you Damien, I love you too.”
Damien’s show of support has more than 194,000 likes on TikTok and has been viewed more than 2.2 million times on YouTube.
