HBO's 'Harry Potter' series will premiere during Christmas
The first official trailer for HBO’s Harry Potter series is here. HBO also confirmed that the series will be premiering this Christmas despite original reports indicating the series would debut in 2027..
HBO’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, which began production earlier this year, will star Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout as Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley, respectively.

“There is nothing special about Harry Potter — at least that’s what his Aunt Petunia says. On his 11th birthday, an admittance letter to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry opens up a hidden world for Harry: one of fun, friendship, and magic. But with this new adventure comes great risk as Harry is forced to face a dangerous enemy from his past.”
The series, which will adapt all seven of J.K. Rowling’s novels across seven planned seasons, is being developed by showrunner Francesca Gardiner, who previously worked on Succession and Killing Eve, and directed by Mark Mylod, who helmed some of the most acclaimed episodes of Succession, including the series finale.
Additional cast members include Paapa Essiedu as Snape, Nick Frost as Hagrid, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, and Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall.
According to reports, each episode of the series cost HBO somewhere in the neighborhood of $100 million to produce, and the network is hoping to stretch the series out over the course of a decade.
As a film franchise, the “Wizarding World” is the fourth highest-grossing movie franchise of all time with $9.65 billion at the global box office, trailing only the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man, and Star Wars.
