‘Tis the season… to watch Home Alone. It is a Christmas movie, after all. Don’t argue. It is. Just like Die Hard and Iron Man 3.
With that in mind, the current owners of the Home Alone house in Winnetka, Illinois, have a special present for all of the film’s fans. They are restoring the house back to its original movie look.
In case you missed it, when the home was up for sale a while back, photos of the interior surfaced, and fans of the film were not pleased. It’s not that the house looked bad. In fact, it was actually pretty nice. It just wasn’t the Home Alone house anymore.
“Once filled with warm colors, patterned carpets, and classic suburban charm, it now features a modern, minimalist interior with white walls, open spaces, and updated fixtures,” Architecture & Design wrote on Instagram. “While the staircase and overall structure remain, the design reflects today’s contemporary style. Despite the changes, the home is no longer recognizable as the iconic house from the movie.”
The family that now owns the ‘Home Alone’ house understands all of the complaints
Thankfully for all those nostalgic folks out there, project manager Scott Price recently informed NBC Chicago that the Home Alone house will soon be returned to its former glory.
“Our vision is to bring back the warmth and just the love from the movie,” he said, adding, “There was so many great colors and it just made you feel like family and like home and we want to bring that magic back.”
The house was sold earlier this year for more than $5 million. At least one person says they would have “paid 10x more for that house” if it were kept original.
“Just like a classic car it’s worth more. Now this house looks like every other house,” they wrote on Instagram. Others said the changes to the interior “removed its soul” and had “zero personality.”
“We love this movie; it was a really important movie in our childhood and that’s true for the family that owns the house too,” said Price.
