A woman has shared how she avoided an awkward conversation after her flight attendant gave her expired hot chocolate powder.
Hot chocolate is one of life’s greatest luxuries. So naturally, if somebody offers some, you wouldn’t turn it down. However, when she was left in an awkward situation as a result of someone’s kind offer, a woman took drastic action.
In the video, which has garnered 14,100 views, Hannah Seyed (@hannahseyed) filmed herself on her flight. She asks viewers, “What would you do in this situation?”
The TikToker then explains how she asked for hot chocolate on a flight. While there wasn’t any available, she says the attendant told her she had some in her bag. Seyed said she was fine, but the attendant insisted and bought over the hot cocoa sachet with water, she recalls.
Then, she clocked the date of the hot chocolate. As shown to the camera, the expiration date is May 2025, making it over a year old.
Because the attendant was “literally like the sweetest ever,” she says she decided to pretend to drink it and took viewers through that process.
In her video, she puts a little bit of the sachet contents in the cup, which had a small amount of water left after she threw the rest of it away, and mixed it in so that it looks believable.
“Now the only question is, what do I do with the rest of the powder in this bag?” she posits. “I don’t know!”
She then films herself pouring the rest of the powder down the toilet sink. Stopping to pull a face in the mirror, Seyed then returns to her seat.

People Pleasing To The Max
Most commenters found the TikToker’s predicament highly relatable.
“I would have done exactly that lol,” one admitted.
“The type of situations I get into for being too nice,” another lamented. “Lol so sweet.”
“Wait you’re such an empath for this,” a third said. “because the way I would’ve done the same.”
Similarly, a fourth said, “I’d drink it, and give the flight attendant a big tip for being so considerate.”
But other commenters thought that it was all a little bit unnecessary.
“Lmao girl you went through so much work,” a fifth commented.
And a sixth suggested, “Girl just say it’s from 2025 in a nice way I’m not doing all of that.”
Can Hot Chocolate Powder Spoil?
According to the website Mindful Nutrition, hot chocolate can remain usable 12 to 24 months after its expiration date. However, the usability of hot chocolate also depends on how it is stored. As Tasting Table pointed out, the primary reason hot chocolate spoils is due to moisture.
If hot chocolate somehow comes into contact with water or even just moisture in the air, it could become spoiled. The outlet also notes that exposure to sunlight or high temperatures can also speed up the spoilage process. This is especially true if the product contains dairy. To this end, Mindful Nutrition also points out that the powder should be kept in an airtight container.
The site goes on to add that humidity is another key thing to avoid. Humidity specifically could cause the power to clump and develop an unusual texture, discoloration, and mold. Because humidity can cause the flavor compounds to break down, it can also impact the taste. These are all signs of spoilage to look out for, along with off smell and appearance.
