Houston commuters encountered a bizarre scene on Thursday afternoon when a Batmobile got a flat tire on Texas’ Gulf Freeway.
Houston TranStar traffic cameras captured the Batmobile stalled on southbound I-45 in the Webster area, near El Dorado Boulevard.
The Batmobile, modeled after the car from the 1989 film Batman, starring Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson, could be seen parked on the right shoulder of the freeway.
Houston TranStar cameras also captured the moment a tow truck arrived to rescue the vehicle, which is usually the one making the rescues. At least in the movies.
With people wondering why he and his Batmobile were stopped on the freeway, the car’s owner, Houston doctor and entrepreneur Abdulla Kudrath, commented on Instagram, “We got a flat tire.”
“Even Batman can’t survive Houston traffic,” ABC 13 News wrote.
“So the Batmobile lost its wheel… and the Joker?” someone else asked on Facebook, reciting the old children’s rhyme.
This particular Batmobile is very well known in the Houston area. Back in March, Kudrath shared how he came to own the car and shared a look inside his garage, where he keeps other famous cars.
KTVB News reported that Moody Gardens, a theme park in Galveston, is hosting a car show on Aug. 29 and Aug. 30 and had previously advertised the Batmobile as an attraction. According to Moody Gardens, the vehicle has nearly 1,000 horsepower.
