A new viral trend has emerged where women ask the men in their lives how often they think about the Roman Empire. These women are completely blown away to learn that men think about the Roman Empire daily.

To be clear, the viral trend is about the Roman Empire and not the Holy Roman Empire. The two empires existed centuries apart and we men aren’t sitting around thinking about the Holy Roman Empire daily, we’re focused on the OGs with Crassus, Marcus Antony, Caligula, Cleopatra, Titus, Nero, and all of the other heavy hitters from what is arguably the greatest empire in ancient history.

Someone women are seeing this trend via TikTok, others are seeing it via Reels. The source isn’t as important as the gist of the trend. The gist is captured by this video of a woman saying a ‘how often men think about the Roman Empire’ videos and asked her own husband. She was blown away by the response of someone she thought she knew everything about.

This tweet/X from September 5th has BLOWN UP. She too saw a reel about how often men think about the Roman Empire. So she went and asked her husband. His answer: every day.

That tweet has now been viewed over 7.7 million times. It has nearly 3,500 bookmarks and over 5,000 retweets/quote tweets. There are countless guys in her shares and mentions, myself included, explaining how it’s perfectly normal that we men think about the Roman Empire daily.

In my case, I binge-listened to all of Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History episodes this year. The whole catalog, not just the Roman episodes. But Dan Carlin’s ‘Death Throes of the Republic’ and ‘Celtic Holocaust’ are about as good of a place one can start when diving into history of the Roman Empire. HBO’s Rome provides a nice TV-stylized version but you really need to go Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History for the goods.

The fact that the ladies in our lives don’t know how often we men think about the Roman Empire feels like, to me, proof that they’re not listening to us. If they’d just listen to us they would know how often we’re thinking about the greatest empire in ancient history.

Also, for what it’s worth, before doing a deep dive/revisit of the Roman Empire’s history I’d start with the history of Philip V of Macedon. It takes you very neatly into Roman history and if we’re talking drama, it doesn’t get more dramatic than Philip’s life and lineage.

Hot on the heels of this Roman Empire trend is ‘favorite planes.’ This person tweeted “Apparently, all men have a favorite plane. Spill it, gents.” They had no clue they’d receive tens of thousands of responses.
