Continuing the best bromance in Hollywood, Hugh Jackman took to Twitter to jokingly beg The Academy not to nominate Ryan Reynolds for an Oscar for his work in AppleTV’s Spirited.

In a video posted to Twitter on Wednesday, Jackman said that Reynolds scoring an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song would make “the next year of his life” — which he will spend alongside Reynolds filming 2024’s Deadpool 3 –“insufferable.”

“Ryan Reynolds getting a nomination in the best song category would make the next year of my life insufferable,” Jackman joked. “I have to spend a year with him shooting Wolverine and Deadpool. Trust me, it would be impossible. It would be a problem.”

“I loved ‘Spirited.’ It’s a great movie, the entire family watched it and had a blast. I love Will [Ferrell], I love Octavia [Spencer]… and ‘Good Afternoon,’ I laughed the entire way through. It is absolutely brilliant. But please, from the bottom of my heart, do not validate Ryan Reynolds [with an Oscar nomination].”

Spirited, which stars Will Ferrell, Octavia Spencer, Sunita Mani, Patrick Page, Marlow Barkley, and Tracy Morgan in addition to Reynolds, was released on AppleTV+ on November 18. The film is a modern retelling of Charles Dickens’ classic 1843 novella A Christmas Carol.

At this time, Deadpool 3 — which will be directed by Shawn Levy, who also helmed Reynolds-starring films such as Free Guy and The Adam Project — is scheduled to hit theaters in the United States on Friday, November 8, 2024.

Since he previously retired as Wolverine following 2017’s Logan, Jackman has starred in projects such as The Greatest Showman, Bad Education, The Front Runner, Reminiscence, and The Son. Next year, Jackman is set to star in the Hulu animated series Koala Man, which premieres on January 9.
