Now that the writers’ strike is officially over, writer/director James Gunn can get back to work on Superman: Legacy.

Not only can Gunn now continue to work on the script, but he’s once again free to talk about (a.k.a. promote) the project on social media.

On Threads, Gunn detailed the three actors/characters that would be making the jump from the DCEU to the DCU: Xolo Maridueña’s Blue Beetle, Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller, and John Cena’s Peacemaker. Gunn also later added that Freddie Stroma’s Vigilante, who is Peacemaker’s sidekick, will be returning.

“Yes, some actors will be playing characters they’ve played in other stories and some plot points might be consistent with plot points from the dozens of films, shows, and animated projects that have come from DC in the past,” Gunn explained.

Gunn also confirmed that his DCU is not officially beginning until the release of the animated series Creature Commandos in 2024.

“Nothing is canon until Creature Commandos next year — a sort of aperitif to the DCU — & then a deeper dive into the universe with Superman: Legacy after that,” Gunn said on Threads.

“It’s a very human drive to want to understand everything all the time, but I think its okay to be confused on what’s happening in the DCU since no one has seen anything from the DCU yet.”

Thus far, only one live-action DCU project has been cast (partially), and that’s the Gunn-directed Superman Legacy, which is set to hit theaters in the summer of 2025.

Earlier this year, prior to the actors’ strike, David Corenswet was cast as Clark Kent/Superman while The Marvelous Ms. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan was picked to play Lois Lane.

Lex Luthor will also reportedly have a role in the film, although the role has yet to be cast. Previous reports indicated that Nicholas Hoult and both of the Skasgard brothers (Alexander and Bill) were being eyed for the iconic villainous role.

At this time, Superman: Legacy is set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
