Maryland Woman Eats Italian Sandwich From Jersey Mike’s. It Sends Her To The Hospital

A woman says a Jersey Mike’s sandwich sent her to the hospital after she allegedly found a piece of plastic while eating her food.

User @thewaxingdoll, a licensed esthetician based in Maryland, shared the experience on TikTok recently and warned others to pay attention while eating.

“Jersey Mikes sent me to the hospital,” she wrote in the text overlay of her clip.

While @thewaxingdoll did not speak in the video, she showed viewers a photo of her Jersey Mike’s bag and footage of herself and someone else waiting at the hospital.

In the caption, she explained that this was “not usual content,” but shared more about what she says happened after she ordered an Italian sandwich from Jersey Mike’s in late May.

“As I was chewing, I felt something plastic, and when I look[ed] there was a plastic [shard] in my tonsils, and after x-rays, CT, and three failed IVs, I finally got it removed (but ended up swallowing it),” she wrote.

After the incident, @thewaxingdoll says she called the Jersey Mike’s location that made her sandwich “for awareness” and was not initially asking for a refund.

However, she claims employees did not take her concerns seriously.

“I explained everything to the manager and even offered to show my discharge paperwork, and I even told him I still had the sandwich if they wanna look at it,” she wrote.

She also claimed she attempted “to call corporate & corporate don’t answer.”

“Be careful where you eat,” @thewaxingdoll warned. As of Thursday, her video had more than 637,200 views.

What Should You Do If You Find Foreign Object In Your Food?

Finding something unexpected in your food can be alarming, especially if you realize after you have already started eating.

Stop eating if you find a foreign object in your meal. If you believe you may have swallowed something sharp or are experiencing pain or any other concerning symptoms, it’s time to take a page from @thewaxingdoll’s playbook and seek medical attention.

From there, it is important to document what happened. Take photos of the item, the food, the packaging, and any receipts before throwing anything away.

That’s exactly what @thewaxingdoll says she did with her tainted Jersey Mike’s order: She kept the sandwich and, after the incident, offered to show the store her hospital discharge paperwork.

As @thewaxingdoll did, customers can also contact the restaurant location directly, so employees can look into what happened. Depending on the situation, restaurants may need details such as when the order was placed and which item was ordered.

But if the store itself cannot or will not resolve the issue, customers can try contacting the company’s corporate team or their local health department.

While foreign objects in food are not something most customers expect to encounter, keeping records of what happened can make it easier for the restaurant or any other involved parties to investigate.

Viewers Urge Customer To Take Action

Commenters who watched @thewaxingdoll’s video were shocked by her experience, with several encouraging her to take further action.

“Oh wow!” one person wrote.

“So sorry,” another added.

Others questioned what exactly happened after seeing the clip.

“What happened?” one viewer asked.

“What was it??” another questioned.

After @thewaxingdoll shared more details in her caption, some viewers suggested she should seek legal advice.

“SUEEEEE,” one person wrote.

“Girl, get a lawyer now,” another suggested.

“Honey, I would be the new owner of that store! Glad you are ok!” a third commenter added.

Others encouraged her to share her experience more widely.

“The local news loves a good story!!! Include everyone you spoke with, leave a review with Yelp and Google (make it 2 [stars] so they can’t request for it to be deleted), and file a complaint with BBB. Also, maybe even seek a lawyer,” one person wrote.
