Christmas is in a few weeks, but the Christmas for Keanu Reeves fans is also coming, but you’ll have to wait a bit. Warner Bros. announced the release date of the Matrix 4, the same day as fellow Keanu Reeves-driven movie John Wick 4. The fourth chapter of Matrix and John Wick will hit theaters on May 21, 2021. Unfortunately, Bill & Ted Face the Music, the upcoming third installment of Bill & Ted, comes out on August 21, 2020, so it won’t be a triple threat.

This exciting Keanu Reeves news comes at the same time as some promising casting news for the Matrix sequel. The upcoming sci-fi flick will star Jonathan Groff who played Holden Ford in David Fincher’s serial killer Netflix drama Mindhunter; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who was Manta in Aquaman and Cadillac in The Get Down; and Jessica Henwick, who played Nymeria Sand in Game of Thrones and Colleen Wing in Iron Fist. The new Matrix will also feature Neil Patrick Harris.

Matrix regulars Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss AKA Trinity, and Jada Pinkett-Smith as Niobe will also return for the fourth film.

Reeves AKA Neo has already seen the new Matrix script and called it “very ambitious. As it should be!”

“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now,” Matrix writer and director Lana Wachowski said of the direction of the movie. “I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.”

You’ve got a long time until the Keanu Reeves double feature hits theaters, so let’s look at how John Wick fits into the Matrix universe and the fan theory of how John Wick is Neo.
