Late last week, news broke that The Wire and John Wick star Lance Reddick had passed away at the age of 60 years old. While his cause of death remains unclear, foul play is not suspected.

Given that Reddick’s passing happened right before the release of his latest film, John Wick: Chapter 4, his colleagues, including series lead Keanu Reeves, have been reacting to his death in the public eye.

Speaking at the premiere of John Wick: Chapter 4 on Monday night, Reeves — who released an official statement in tandem with director Chad Stahelski immediately following Reddick’s death — spoke eloquently about the passing of his co-star and friend.

“Lance was a beautiful person, [a] special artist, a man of grace and dignity, and such a passion for his craft,” Reeves told Deadline at the premiere of John Wick: Chapter 4.

“And to have the chance to work with him over 10 years and four films is something that is very special to me and it f*****g sucks he’s not here.”

Reeves and Reddick’s friendship was truly genuine, as the late character actor previously told a story of Reeves going out of his way to spend time with him on his birthday.

“His girlfriend is cool as f***. And she told me that she asked Keanu what he wanted to do for his birthday and he said, ‘I want to go see Lance.’ He’d never done this before but he wrote me a note thanking me for what I brought to the character in these movies. And he wanted to give the note to me. I’ll never forget it. I’m going to cry now,” Reddick said. [via Vulture]

John Wick: Chapter 4, which also stars Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgård, Laurence Fishburne, Hiroyuki Sanada, Shamier Anderson, Lance Reddick, Rina Sawayama, Scott Adkins, and Ian McShane alongside Reeves and Reddick, will hit theaters in the United States on Friday, March 24.

BroBible’s Post-Credit Podcast sat down for a lengthy chat with franchise director Chad Stahelski to discuss a spoiler-free breakdown of the film, the legacy of the character, Keanu Reeves’ empathy (as demonstrated above), his upcoming Ghost of Tsushima movie, and more.
