The Nets superstar immediately received plenty of backlash over his tweet which also led to a report that the team might be considering trading him.
Some NBA news:
There are a handful of Kyrie trades that potentially make sense for the Nets, Kyrie’s agents have made it known that Kyrie would simply *retire from the NBA* if Brooklyn were to trade him.

A lot of folks are responding to my reporting with a variation of this. And at one point, due to Kyrie’s relationship with KD, that might have been true. Just like at one point DJ was “untouchable”.
But much like we just saw with DJ, that’s simply no longer the case w/ Kyrie. https://t.co/rCacf1EGzz

Irving responded to the backlash by saying that his tweet was only a metaphor and not meant to be taken literally.
“Mask off” means
You stop being something you’re not and stop lying to yourself. It’s the moment you discover the real you and can walk around with NO FEAR in a society that shows a lot of the masks people wear to hide who they truly are.*nothing COVID rule related!! Relax 🤞🏾

Kyrie would also fire back at the trade rumors making the rounds on Twitter.
